Announcing a new Meetup for Austin Sailing Society!
What: Vessel Naming Ceremony
When: Saturday, January 16, 2010 1:00 PM
Where:
Sail & Ski Yacht Club
16409 Stewart Rd
Austin, TX 78734
Kristine and I would be honored to have you all as our distinguish guest for our yacht naming ceremony. This is an aspect of maritime tradition that I suspect few have never participated in. Capt. Joe Currey (U.S. Coast Guard Lic. Cpt, Ret.) will join us from San Antonio and be the officiant of the ceremony.
The order of events will be as follows:
Opening Invocation
Blessing
Expression of Gratitude
Supplication & De-naming
Rededication & Renaming
Libation and Ceremonial Rituals
Honoring Gods of the Winds and the Seas
Christening
Party
The ceremony will begin promptly @ 1300 hrs on E dock slip 10 at the Sail and Ski Marina (16409 Stewart Rd. Lakeway, Tx. - 266-2507)
We are required to throw a "big" party for the yacht, the gods frown on doing things cheap, and as I hope to have many of you crew for us at in the future, I want to make certain they are happy so you all have safe passage when aboard. That being said, bring your favorite libations (rum, wine, champagne, beer, etc) and snacks . I would also suggest warm jackets, dock charis, and other things since the majority of the ceremony will be conducted in my slip. The after-party is very important.
While its a bit early to predict weather (wind) I am hopeing that several of the other skippers in A.S.S will bring their boats and we all take a day sail to continue the party. Kristine and I are required to "sail backwards" this day to erase her old name from the lake. Hopefully there will be witnesses and documentation of my attempt at this rather difficult task.
Fair winds all, hope some of you can participate.
Paul
