Blind Tasting Tonight (wed. 8/15)

Tonight I will host a proctored blind tasting of six Chilean Carmenere wines at my home. We have a small group scheduled to attend, but I could accomodate up to 10 more tasters. If you would like to attend this event, please let me know by replying here or by replying to my thread at the Austin WineBat Carmenere Blind Tasting Forum. Your request will not be considered accepted until you receive an email confirmation directly from me. Please include a phone number with any correspondence. There will be no charge to attend this tasting. We will begin at 8:00 pm and it should only take about an hour. I can only accept 10 people to attend this tasting because of size limitations.

About Carmenere:

Carmenere (French for crimson) is of the original six noble grapes of Bordeaux, where it was known as Grand Vidure. It was ravaged by the odium fungus, then wiped out by the infamous 1867 Phylloxera plague and considered extinct. However, in the 1850's it had been planted in Chile, where they mistakenly thought it was Merlot and bottled as such until in 1994 it was discovered to actually be Carmenere.

I love a good grape story.

And I love a good value. Because this grape is so unknown, I have been finding consistently good bottles of it in the $5-$12 range. I'll have six bottle opened and bagged for us to do a nice blind tasting. There is no charge for the tasting, but I will collect your notes and rating to publish on WineBat.com .

The wines were actually a bit of a disappointment, but the blind tasting was great fun and the company was excellent.
