Blind tastings only, open tastings also, or both of these and more?

A few people have expressed their concern that the group is no longer exclusively a blind wine-tasting group. Do you want the group's focus to remain as blind wine-tasting only, or are you comfortable with it opening up to a wider focus? The wider focus would include blind tastings, open tastings, open meet-ups and tastings at wine bars in town, and possibly other related events.

Would you be interested in hosting a wine tasting?

I belonged to a great wine tasting group in Raleigh-Durham, and they had regular events--at least once a month--at the members homes. The group was large, but very conversational and friendly, so it never felt awkward to invite members to tastings at one's house. The idea was that the person hosting the event chose the theme, and people brought a bottle of wine, and $1 to pay for the meet-up group, and a bit of food to share. It was always fun, and always informative, even when people's tastes differed greatly. For example, I hosted an Australian Shiraz tasting, and at a different time a tasting of rosés. We also did sparkling wines in December, Reislings, and Italian wines. The themes are whatever you decide, but often they work best if more specific (or if you make suggestions). And, whoever hosts doesn't need to provide a bottle of wine. Would any of you be interested in hosting one of these? I'm willing to do the first, but probably won't be able to before June.
