June 17th *North* Weeknight Discussion Meetup

Our new schedule has us meeting four times a month, twice each in North Austin and South Austin. Meetings last 2.5-3 hours.

We'll start the meeting off by reading works  (silently) from those that have brought something to share then we'll take turns discussing them. If you want to bring a piece to share please bring at least 4-5 copies and keep it between 2-4 pages in length (under 2,000 words). From there if time allows we will branch into a discussion of topics related to writing.

About the meeting fee, Meetup charges organizers a fee to run the group. So, the suggested donation is to help me cover the costs of running the group. Anything you can donate helps but we won't kick you out if you can't spare a few bucks. In addition to the meetup fee Genuine Joe charges a fee for the room but they let us pay for it in purchases. So, please try to buy something if you can & tell them you are with the group so they can count it towards the room fee. (If you can't afford both just make a purchase since I'll end up owng GJ money anyway if we don't meet the minimum.)

    Hi Y'All!

Just wanted to take a moment to thank EVERYBODY for your encouragement during workshop, but for your written suggestions as well. It was truly illustrative to see how three or four manuscripts would have similar feedback in certain paragraphs (the infamous cookie decorating scene, for example) and how just little comments ("No verb in this sentence" or circling how many times I started a sentence with 'She'---thanks, Tobias :) pushed me to seriously revise the whole paragraph, knowing today what I know about the story that I didn't when I first wrote it.

    Amazeballs.

I have been so discouraged about revising this novel, but I find if I just trust The Hive's cheers, criticisms, etc, a whole new door swings open into the sentence, paragraph, chapter. It feels suddenly oxygenated, aerated, like anything CAN happen, but something specific SHOULD happen, given the trajectory of the story.

    I find story-writing endlessly intriguing. Well, I'm out of words : )

Just wanted to share for anyone who's interested. There's a new online writing community at www.delvewriting.com. It has weekly checkins, if you want to participate, regular webinars, craft workshops and critiquing. It costs either $10– $20/month, depending on which type of membership you choose. I'm trying it out.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
