New to OpenStack? Come along and learn what it is, how it works, and how you can be a part of the hottest software project on the planet. Look forward to an information packed evening that will set you on your OpenStack journey.

Food, beer and venue is kindly sponsored by Rackspace!

Agenda:

6.00 - Start
6.15 to 6.20 - Welcome from Tom Fifield, OpenStack Foundation Community Manager. (via Hangout from Peoplebank in Melbourne)
6.20 to 7.20 - An introduction to OpenStack from Martin Paulo* (via Hangout from Pepoplebank in Melbourne)

There have been many requests for a talk that will introduce OpenStack to the group members. That, then, is the goal of this months talk. A brief history, explaining the why and the how behind the creation of OpenStack, followed by an overview of the parts that make up OpenStack. Finally, a small worked example showing how the parts all combine when a request to fire up a VM on the cloud is made. After the talk, a question and answer session will be held.

7.20 to 7.30 - Break

7.30 to 8.15 - we will break off the Hangout feed from Melbourne and have a person to person Q&A workshop where you can address questions in Melbourne to Martin and Tom, and in Sydney to Sina and Tristan.

Remote participants can address questions to Tristan and Sina in Sydney via Hangout or #openstack-community on Freenode IRC.

The Google Hangout URL is https://www.youtube.com/user/OzStacker

You do not need to RSVP to use the hangout.

* Martin Paulo is a software developer with VeRSI (the Victorian eResearch Strategic Initiative). Way back when Martin started out writing assembly for embedded systems. From there, via grid programming, he made the move to more conventional software development, as a Java developer in the financial services arena. At VeRSI Martin has worked on and with the NeCTAR (National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources) research cloud: possibly the largest and most complex OpenStack deployment in Australia.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
