Games Night: Death

This Games Night we will be exploring our feelings about death.  We'll explore and share our thoughts and feelings about our own mortality as well as the mortality of loved ones and people around us.  We have some creative and fun games to explore this somber, possibly scary, topic.

Have you been brutally honest with yourself about how you feel about death?  Is there a vail of immortality between you and death?  If you are honest with yourself... what do you feel?  How do you experience death when someone you know dies?  How do you want people to experience your own death?  Or rather, the life you lived after you're gone?

Whit and Jason will be leading an exploration of these questions and feelings.  We hope to see you there!

Games Night is an opportunity to grow and explore yourself, others, and authentic communication and connection. We provide a safe container with guided "games" that exercise different ways of interacting with a goal of giving you the opportunity to push your edge into places you usually dare not go. In these places you may discover it's okay to share how you really feel, it's okay to share where your attention really is, and it's okay to share other spicy edgy yet somehow satisfying and connecting truths of your reality. All this is done in the spirit of building deeper more authentic connections and relationships.

Doors Open at 7:15. Evening starts at 7:30 (sharp!) and doors are closed at about 7:45 (or whenever we begin the Agreements).

Reminder: The requested contribution is $10-15. This contribution will be requested upon entry to the studio. Please talk to us in advance if the cost to attend is prohibitive – no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Don't forget that Games Night is FREE for first-timers during March and April, so invite some friends, or if you haven't yet checked us out and are on this list, this is a great time to do so!

Great new exercises and good facilitation. Who could ask for more?

If anyone wishes to attend the Griefwalker screening Whit mentioned below (http://orphanwisdom.com/event/griefwalker-public-screening-talk/), I'd be happy to pitch in some $ for a carpool. Just msg. me individually. (I'm near NE 64th & Fremont, but can meet w/in a few miles of here.) As part of my background is in counseling/coaching, I promise to provide interesting conversation. :) Thanks again for the last games night; it was pretty powerful for me.

As a new participant to this group, I experienced an joyous willingness to engage with this process and with others by all those there. I appreciate how the group was facilitated with caring and safety.

Thanks for saying that, Mark, and I'm glad that you had a good experience. I definitely felt like you fit right into our group, and I hope we keep seeing you at our events. :)

I agree mark, I enjoyed the openness and engagement of the group as well. I could feel myself relax and open just because everyone else was so open. I wish the meetings were on another night so I could attend more often (I have another group that meets Mondays), but I plan to come whenever I can!

For those interested in continuing with the "death" thread, I was alerted to the screening of a special movie next weekend... http://orphanwisdom.com/event/griefwalker-public-screening-talk/

Another awesome night, really pleased at how the AP community rolled with this potentially delicate topic. Looking forward to playing with you again in two weeks!

I am so very hopeful that this topic can be revisited at a future game night. Thank you.

Hi Jacq. I think that's quite possible, I feel that it's very rich territory to be explored, and we only had time to come at it from a few angles.

I want to share something that I thought the group would like: http://tinybuddha.com/blog/how-death-teaches-us-to-live-fully-7-enlightening-lessons/

Awesome, thanks Mark! That's a beautiful preface for our event tomorrow.

Thanks Mark! I like this bit: "Prior to my father's death... I didn’t question life and I didn’t question the choices I made. I was not fully aware; I was not on purpose. I did not have a sense that my time was limited, nor did I get that life was a gift."

I'm so excited to be back in Portland and exploring this much needed topic. One of my realizations in India was the fact that our culture very much "attempts" to prepare us for life, but not so much the death process. Death is something that affects us continually, not just in our last breathe, but aging, letting go, transforming. Thank you Whit and Jason for helping us explore this. See you soon!

Oh good, I was worried I'd be the only one excited about exploring this. :)

Was hoping for an April 29th. Is the first-night-free gone forever?

    April 22, 2013

    • Whit G.

Hi SJ. Yes, I'm afraid so. Games Night only happens on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month. But we encourage you to come check the events out, they're well worth the $10 fee!
