Mardi Gras of the Carolinas. Exotic Party with 5,000 people at Castle McCulloch!

If you can't make it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras try the next best thing. The city of Jamestown NC has a huge party called the Mardi Gras of the Carolinas every year. It's one of the wildest, craziest parties you'll ever attend and it's a whole lot closer than going to New Orleans.

Castle McCulloch's description of this event:
Feel the heat of Carnevale with sizzling entertainment and enticing Mardi Gras costumes. Bring your dare as you bare attitude with you and prepare to mix, mingle, see and be seen. Frolic as you roam the grounds of Castle McCulloch and indulge in live music, fire performances, belly dancers and other exotic acts. -----------------------------------

13 dance floors, numerous dj's and bands, crazy costumes, fire dancing troupe, hookah lounge, acrobats, blood wrestling (not a typo either), body painted dancers, people walking on stilts, spanking booth, belly dancers, costume competitions, side show acts, and so much more exotic things are here. The best part of this event might just be it's held in an old castle from the 1800s... with a drawbridge, moat, and etc. I'm always surprised that a lot of people from Charlotte haven't heard of this party. This is one of the most popular events for meetup groups in the Triad.

Here's a link to the website http://www.castlemcculloch.com/festivals/ and it will have a link to purchase a ticket. Tickets are typically $30 but you can get them for around half off if you buy early. This event is a little over an hour from where I live in Charlotte so it'd be best if the carpooled there. I'm working on some arrangements now and will post more info about it later.... for a rough estimate it should cost around $10 per person for carpooling. Here's a couple videos of past events.

I'll post more about the event as it gets closer. If you're interested in going please sign up early so I can make arrangements for carpooling. This event sells out every year so you will have to get a ticket before the event... please do not drive up there without one because I don't want you to get turned away at the gate.

The meeting spot at 5pm will be the Applebee's in the University area. The address is 8700 Jw Clay Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28262. If anyone has trouble finding it you can call me at[masked]-8474.

If you're riding the van back... get in touch with me soon. Group is leaving in a few mins. We are leaving in about 20 mins

We are at the main bridge to watch a fire show. It's currently 1130. If you are not with the main group and are riding in the van.. . It is important that you find us or call me by midnight. I don't want anyone to get left behind.

Hey everyone, we are here early and in a white van. The van is on the back side of Applebee's. Should be easy to find but if you can't let me know.

Info about the party: The van is leaving at 5pm don't get left behind. We have 5 spaces available in the van if you want a seat let me know... we might get a smaller van if I don't have more people sign up the carpool.

If you need a ticket I'd purchase it soon. Their website says 4,200 tixs have been sold but it hasn't been updated in while.

The bars are "cash only" so bring enough for drinks, van share, and gas. There are ATM's on site. In the past food vendor's were there. Please drink responsibly and know your limits. Please stay with the group as much as possible. We'll leave the party sometime between 12 and 2. If you get lost call or text me. I do not want anyone to get left behind.

I found a list of events https://www.facebook.com/MardiGrasAtTheCastle/photos/a.420010201413228.99296.383236838423898/589874497760130/?type=1&theater . We'll get there early but most acts start around 8pm and after. Any questions? I'd ask now. This is going to be a great time!!!

I'm looking into additional options since we seem to be low on drivers. I called shuttle services and they were all too expensive. Would anyone be interested in going in a 12-15 passenger van that most of us could carpool in? I looked up the prices on ace car rental in Charlotte and it'd be $120 plus gas. So if 12 people said yes it'd only cost $10 a person PLUS gas. Which is really affordable. If anyone knows a shuttle company or rental van company that'd make us an even better deal please let me know.

If you are a definite YES I'd like to split the cost and get a van please reply to this conversation and say you'd be willing to do that. If 12-15 people say yes then I'll make it an option for this trip.

are we still taking the van?

Sid, yes we are still taking a van there.

I have an expedition that seats 8 people. I'm willing to take it. Either way, I think car pooling is a good idea. Also, I'm willing to go in on a hotel room. Please advise.

I'm staying at the Wyndham and am traveling to the fest on their free shuttle. If anyone wants to ride with me please let me know ASAP. Otherwise, I'm driving a car that only has room for myself and 1 person.

Can you tell me about this? I called the lady down there to ask questions. she said the females were as little as possible, and its a big thing every year. She said they have fire dancers, acrobatics and everything....and people dress in the weirdest costumes. What is it like....this is our first time.

Thanks for your question. This is a Carnevale type party. At this venue you just walk around to different spots and hang out. There's different tents and area's with events going... dance floors, live music, entertainment, etc.

Updated info on our meeting spot. The main carpool meeting spot will be the Applebee's parking lot in the University area. The address is 8700 Jw Clay Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28262. It's easy to get to and has plenty of parking. If you're driving a carpooling vehicle from a different area(Balantyne, Lake Norman, Uptown, etc) you can set a meeting spot close to you just give yourself plenty of time to met everyone at Applebee's at 5pm. The plan is to leave Applebee's as one big group in a few cars. Right now we have two drivers left Thomas and Jennifer. I would try to arrange your seat beforehand. We could probably use 1 or 2 more drivers. You can also come out to Applebee's and hopefully we can find an extra spot available for you to ride along with. Please make sure to purchase your ticket ahead of time to avoid any potential sellouts. If you have any other questions please let me know!

I wanted to send out an update on this event since it's coming up soon. If you haven't got your ticket yet I'd try to do that soon. As of right now they've already sold 3,400+ and the event is going to be a sell out. The website is currently offering a $10 discount on tickets at this time.

The other thing is I'm wanting to do is get carpooling figured out. Jennifer is driving and I can drive also if needed. I need to find out if there's anyone else willing to drive up there. Also I need to get a count on how many people need to ride with someone. If I don't hear from you then I'm going to assume you've already got a ride up there or are driving yourself.

I'm going to try to set up a meeting spot on the North Side of town so we can all drive together. Jennifer lives in the ballantyne area (with 1 seat still available in her car) and I live in uptown (3 spots left)... when we get more drivers I'll update what area they're in.

      Can I get a spot?

This event's not too far off and won't be long till we are all celebrating at Castle McCulloch. Is anyone wanting to do a group theme and dress up for this event? If anyone has any suggestions or ideas let me know... if not we can just do our own thing (costumes are optional here anyway). The other thing is I need to know who's able to provide a vehicle to carpool, what area of Charlotte you live in, and how many passenger seats your car has. If you carpool with someone I ask that you contribute some money for gas.
