Come sing a cappella with us and help Axios be of service to the Church! Everyone is welcome, experienced or not.
1) Help us search for a bay area home base, accessible by public transportation, preferably BART.
2) Sing in sacred services starting with Orthodox Vespers.
3) Use English mainly to emphasize understanding instead of entertainment.
4) Initially study English language a cappella music of slavonic Tones and sacred melodies.
5) Rachmaninov "Bogoroditsye Devo--Rejoice, O Virgin" in English--SATB.
6) Develop small men's (TTBB) and women's (SSAA) quartets. (As I discovered personally, small men's liturgical quartets sound great and really draw the interest of Russian museum visitors. But, after visiting Russian convents, I am convinced that devoted, egalitarian women's voices are even more inspiring!)
7) As talents appear we can work on more difficult Gregorian, Anglican, Old Roman and Byzantine Chant.
8) Sing jointly with Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican and other Sacred Liturgical church choirs.
9) Inexperienced singers are welcome to sing with us softly until parts are learned.
Future service projects:
1) Nudge a few historic churches into restoring weekly use of choral evensong and vespers.
2) Seek out Orthodox of various jurisdictions to teach us ethnic music in English.
3) Quartets can evolve to assist churches, festivals, nursing homes or even museums when invited.
4) Also seek out western-rite chant experts to lead us using English.
