Trail View/Stillwell Hike

  • December 7, 2013 · 11:30 AM

This will be an exploratory HIKE which translates to “I don’t know where I’m going”. We’ll try not to get too lost as we explore new (to me) trails that combine these two connecting preserves. Total distance is unknown but probably between 4 and 5 miles. The terrain along this trail is rugged with inclines and declines that are deeply rooted and rocky. Only members that are sure they can handle this sort of terrain should add their name to this event. Limited attendance for the hike.---Lee

CAN YOU HANDLE THIS?^^^^^^^

AR members need to add their names.

Those who need to pay their yearly dues ($10) can do so at this event.

I'm not familiar with hiking on Long Island, but perhaps in the spring we could do some more exploratory hikes in this area!

hopefully I will be able to do it too.

The hike was good but Loren's injury was very upsetting. Hopefully it will heal quickly so she can return to her passion of walking.

Due to surgery on Wednesday (4th of Dec.), I will pass on this walk. I will miss my good friends but better safe than sorry. See you soon.

Well, Nick, with your hand issues and my ankle injury, I hope both of us have a fast recovery soon.

Loren took another one for the team during today’s hike at Stillwell. She was out in the lead scouting out the terrain when a wild root grabbed her by her ankle and caused her to fall to the ground. Loren did sprain her ankle but she is one tough cookie (Oreo?) and so she will bounce back and make a full recovery. Thank goodness for that!

      Loren, Do you like Oreos?

      December 7, 2013

    • Loren

I do like Oreo's. I know this all is temporary so I hope I heal very soon so I can see you and everyone soon.

Loren, I am so sorry about your fall. Although you have a bad sprain, I was afraid that your ankle was broken. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening. Feel better.

    • Loren

Thank you so much, Linda. I am glad it wasn't broken but when I went into the emergency room, my foot looked like a baseball. I am also looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night as I hobble in. I do hope that the weather co-operates as well.

The walk was great. The paths were very interesting. First train tracks, then bamboo. Everyone in the group is so friendly!!!

Well, I managed to take a very bad spill and I went to ER in Plainview and they x-rayed me and found a soft tissue fracture or sprain, I don't know but they put a splint on me and gave me crutches. I look extremely funny hopping on one foot. Anyway, I really enjoyed the hike and I am sorry that I had to detain everyone from really enjoying it by Lee and everyone stopping and going because of me and Steve being behind. I never thought I would actually be crying because I was the last one to be behind. It was great seeing everyone and it was nice hugging everyone in a huddle to keep warm before the hike/walk. I will miss some walks but I do hope that I can still hobble to see the group for lunch. Thank you everyone for your support and I really mean it. Lots of love to everyone and it is not LOL. See you soon!!!!!!

I just want to add that I really enjoyed being with some of you at Cosi's for lunch and that soup I had was excellent. Thank you, Lee and everyone for pushing me to go to the doctors immediately to get it checked out. See everyone when this gets back to normal.

Thank you Chris, now I have to use a crutch and I am not good at it. LOL!!!!! I sprained my ankle pretty bad and it is a soft tissue sprain too. Not fun. Again, thanks.

Nick, Lee does have a point. Your members definitely would have given you a HAND even if it isn't all of them. Anyway, feel better and see you soon.

may I ask what is meant by "AR members need to add their names" ??

    December 2, 2013

    • Lee Z.

AR members are a group within a group that have their names added to most walks automatically.
