NEW! ONLINE (Google+) Hangout—Todd Sattersten on the Publishing Biz for Authors

  • August 14, 2012 · 12:00 PM

This month BABS takes it up to eleven, with a new series of Authors Go Public lunchtime video hangouts! Our guest this month is Todd Sattersten, author most recently of Every Book is a Startup: The New Business of Publishing.

Todd knows a lot about the business of books. Through his BizBookLab, he helps authors and publishers identify, develop and launch business books around the world. Today I'll ask Todd for his thoughts on publishing and self-publishing, and what he sees as the most promising strategies available to authors today.

Our lunch hangouts will take place on Google Plus, and are open exclusively to BABS members on a first come first served basis. They begin promptly at 12 noon and go for 20-30 minutes. There is room for up to 8 participants in the video chat, and an unlimited number of people can watch the conversation live on Anne's G+ page. We will also post the recorded video after the chat on the BABS meetup site.

Here is a video of Todd being interviewed earlier this year at O'Reilly Media's Tools of Change Conference:

What fun to launch our new online hangout series! Thanks to Judy, Jennifer and Carla for the great questions you asked Todd—your incisive, thoughtful comments reflect well on our whole group. Thanks also to everyone who watched the streaming video, to Suzanna for keeping up the Twitter back channel, and of course to Todd Sattersten for joining us on the maiden voyage!

Super! Technical note - Accessing thru IE just displayed a screen with a message saying that the presentation would begin shortly but the presentation did not come up. Only when I went to Chrome did the presentation appear.

Excellent content; good job, Anne. And nice to "meet" you, Todd Sattersten. I had a technical glitch, but that was my own problem (and Anne helped me out). Looking forward to the next event.

Big thanks to the folks I could see attending the Google Hangout, I know there were others, but present were Anne Hill as Host and interviewer (great job!), Carla King, Judy Baker, Jenny Flower, Roberta Ryan, and Laurie King. I was transcribing and putting up some backchannel on Twitter for this one. Anyone else listening in who wants to comment, we'd love to hear from you! Be sure to put the next one on your calendar.

Straight to the point information in such a short time span. I picked up several takeaways and am still chewing on Todd's perspective. Looking forward to the next one!
