Its National park time!
*PLEASE READ ENTIRE WRITE UP BEFORE SIGNING UP*
Starting this out with Glacier national park. Though this is the first one i'm posting it will probably not be the first one I go to. But who knows.
This is way to far to drive to have any significant time there. So I am flying Allegiant air out of mesa. Current flight cost is $228 with one checked bag round trip into Missoula Mt. Arrival time for us in Missoula is 11:30 am on Sat July 27th. Departure time is 11:00 am on Friday Aug 2. As of today it looked like there were roughly 100 seats still available. No idea on how long they will last. So book as soon as you can. Other carriers where offering trips from Tucson to Missoula for $475 ish.
I have 2 camp sites reserved at the Fish Creek campground. Each able to hold 6 people.
I also have one mini van reserved through Enterprise that will take 6 of us. That means the first 6 to sign up and get tickets will be riding with me. The next 6 will have to book there own vehicle and work out who is renting it and driving. The drive from Missoula to Glacier is roughly 3.5 hours.
What to expect.
- A lot of great scenery.
- A ton of hiking
- Hopefully a ton of Wildlife
- Average temperatures for this time of year. Highs of mid 70's Lows Mid 40's
- Average rain fall for this time of year is 1.18 inches per month. Rain of .01 inches or more likely 9 days out of the month.
- This will be a car camp but remember you will be putting all of your gear on a plane. We will be stopping up there to buy our regular food and such.
- Costs... Your plane ticket. (Mine was $228.) Car rental depends on how many end up going. Shared gas expenses and shared camping expenses. We would also share costs of fire wood and things that we all use. Like buying a cheap cooler once we get to Montana. We can donate it to good will or something before we bug out. So everyone can try and budget I would estimate between $100 - $150 each person.
What to think about.
Glacier has a high bear activity. Though seldom do they have problems you must be aware that they could come into the campground or we could see them why out on trail. I do have a can of bear spray I carry to help out the group. If you feel you need one personally that is up to you of course.
There might be some trails we do where there is some exposure. You will of course not have to continue if you do not wish and may turn back. Also you are free to do different hikes as long as they don't take the main group to far out of there way to not allow them to finish the one the majority wanted to do.
How the wait list works... The order in which you sign up will be the order of preference. If the wait list should exceed the number of spots available. Those that are ahead of others on the list will be given a 24 hour window of opportunity of saving there spot by purchasing there ticket before the folks behind them may advance. Also those who have been a member of this group or who have hiked with me before this was posted will also get first dibs. Though I will not put you on the going list until I have seen a copy of your purchased plane ticket. If you have some other odd way of getting there then I will require a $100 deposit to hold your spot. Your deposit will be used towards the cost of the rental car and camp fees. Any left over would be returned to you. If you end up canceling those of us that do go thank you for your support.
I will email out a suggested camping list etc as we get closer.
Please note that if you have any medical issues I would like you to write them down and keep them in an envelope in your pack. These are for emergency use only and could greatly help emergency responders in assisting you if it were needed. Information should contain Any allergies, Any medical history that might be beneficial to an emergency responder, Emergency contact number. (Either written in the envelope or in you phone as emergency contact.) If there is something that you believe your organizer should know prior to the event. (Ie you are allergic to bee stings, Etc) Please let the organizer know before the hike. Thank you all. Lets go have some fun!
