Eat Below The Poverty Live 5 Day Challenge

Eat Below The Poverty Line 5 Day Challenge

I saw this article on yahoo about poverty as described by the World Bank. Basically trying to eat on $1.50 per day (I read another article and US poverty level for food is $4.23 per day per person) I currently eat lots of meals out, and some at home. I probably spend $20 per day or more, not counting the occasional big meal with drinks, appetizers, etc. I think it would be interesting to try surviving on $1.50 (or $4.23) per day. See if it can be done.

In the end I plan to donate what I would have spent on food, $100, to the local Food Bank. I'll probably lose some weight too, which would be a good thing. And I'll probably have more empathy for those struggling.

Would anyone like to try this with me? You can choose the world level of $1.50 or US level of $4.23 per day. You don't have to donate the money if you don't want. You can try it on your own, or one of the suggestions was to shop together and pool money to make some better purchases, and it wouldn't be bad to have some support too. I have a location of Smart and Final, because they are half way between a regular grocery store and a warehouse store. So thought shopping there might work for 5 days worth of inexpensive food. Everyone show up with $7.50 or $21.15, and see if we can pull it off. Shop on Saturday. Eat to the plan Monday thru Friday.

Here's a few articles if you're interested.
