Natural Bridges was discovered in 1861 during the gold rush and has been a national historic curiosity ever since. Natural Bridges is located about 20 minutes outside Historic Columbia, CA. Columbia is located about 2 hours east of Pleasanton off Highway 49. This is an intermediate cave due to the water features. Natural Bridges is a non-technical cave and requires no special gear other than a swimsuit, and water shoes or old tennis shoes for hiking between the two water caves. If you’re thinking Huckleberry Finn, don’t – you cannot get lost in this cave. The environment inside this natural cave is about 75 degrees. The walls, floor and roof are all solid limestone carved out over who knows how long, covered with stalagmites, stalactites, and a host of interesting attributes. A very small river flows into the bottom of the cave making it a lake that is about 40 feet wide and 50-60 yards long for a nice swim. The cave height is about 30 feet high so no small areas at all.
