Building on a short trip with Roger Schumann in 2011, five of us set out to travel the length of Big Sur in early June of this year. With help from the California Coastal Photography website and Google Maps, camping spots were located along this rugged but not-so-isolated coast. As all expeditioners know, flexibility is often needed and that proved to be true on this trip. Almost every Californian has driven Highway 1 along this coast, but few have experienced it from the sea and fewer from a kayak. Perhaps this presentation will inspire a few more to do so.
Dick Ryon has been a BASK member since 2001. He has done two Alaska expeditions, to Glacier Bay and the Kenai Peninsula. He joined Mike Higgins on a trip down the Oregon coast from the Columbia River to Florence. He has paddled twice from Oxnard to the Channel Islands.
