Drum Circle (2) at New Guinea Sculpture Garden

  • Nov 17, 2013 · 1:00 PM
  • the New Guinea Sculpture Gardens

We had a drum circle here on April 21, with 12 drummers, and it was great. I want to meet here again before the weather gets too cold... so if you missed it, here is your second chance. The location is in an obscure area of the Stanford Campus.  It's not really a garden at all, but more like a small rectangular forested area, bounded on four sides by campus streets. The sculptures, done by artists from New Guinea, are scattered around and are somewhat interesting. One of the sculptures, made of wood, is hollow and is a type of log drum that we can actually use.

Bring a chair or something to sit on. Restrooms are a short walk away. Please remember that this area is private property.

A high probability of rain will cancel this event... or we can use my house.

You can see the exact location by looking at the map link above, or you can set your GPS to the intersection of Lomita Drive and Santa Teresa Street on the Stanford Campus. There is plenty of street parking that is unregulated on weekends.

Official count of drummers..... 22 members with guests included, and another 5 who were not members..... for a total of 27. Collected $24 in contributions which goes toward the meetup.com fee and things like name tags (which we use at indoor venues). Drumming was mostly very good with a few times being somewhat disjointed. Overall a fun time. Thanks to all who attended and responded to my "facilitation" efforts. If anyone feels that I am overdoing this, please let me know.

John was a great facilitator, keeping the action interesting for such a large group, I don't know, 40 people. It was edifying to be part of a happy group of humans.

This is not your every day meditatipn group! I am ecstatic that so many of our regular drummers are coming...way to go John for organizing! Newbies will have as much fun and learning as you make ! And its incredibly easy to do....Probably be one of the last outdoor venues (sadly), so come prepared to celebrate the 'cool' season and play from the heart ♡
BTW: it is a full moon day....YES!

This event seems heightened, at the sculpture gardens, at John's house. Looking forward to it.
