The World Rhythm Festival is a two day annual organized weekend series of drumming events in Seattle, at the "Seattle Center" in the shadow of the famous "Space Needle".
The website for the World Rhythm Festival is http://www.swps.org/. It has the basic information that you will need, and more details will be added as the date gets closer. There is no admission fee for the event. You'll only have to pay for your lodging, meals, and transportation to get there. If you are going to be there, your "yes" RSVP will let us know. We can meet for meals, activities, or jamming.
Last year I flew and stayed at the "Inn at Queen Anne". It's an old and basic hotel but just fine for the money. There were at least seven of us from BADC there.
This year I am going to take the Amtrak Coast Starlight train to get there and back. It's a 24 hour ride and a coach seat costs $262 round trip from San Jose. (For comparison, flying could be about $277, plus baggage fee.) For a higher price, you can get a room in the sleeper car with actual beds to sleep in and includes meals. The train leaves San Jose at 8:23 pm Thursday and arrives in Seattle Friday night. Returning would be leaving Seattle at 9:35 am Monday and arriving San Jose on Tuesday morning. Other stations you could use are Oakland, Emeryville, and Martinez. The train has comfortable seats, a club car, and a dining car. Luggage allowances make it much easier to bring your favorite drum than on an airline. We can probably get seats together, and can have drum circles in the club car. (I know all this because I recently rode this same train from San Jose to LA.) More info at http://www.amtrak.com/coast-starlight-train.
