July Full Moon Drum Circle

Another full moon is coming up!  In July, the full moon is on a Saturday.  The full moon rises at 8:38pm - and the sun sets at8:29.

The park is BIG.... so, to find us, use the address above and LOOK at the Google map. The green arrow, or red dot, points to the exact location where we meet. From 101, you'll go east on Embarcadero Rd, and pass the PA airport (will be on your left); take a left at the T; go past the duck pond (also on your left). After that, bear right and proceed to a gravel parking lot at the end of the road. The place where we drum is an area of soft gravel between the parking area and an arrangement of big concrete blocks.

There is no seating, so bring your chair, stool, or an old blanket to sit on. There is an outhouse nearby. Dogs are allowed. Handicapped access is poor. This location is always cool and windy in the evenings so bring a jacket or sweater. The park closes at 9:00pm on this day.

If your plans change at the last minute, please change your RSVP accordingly.

Extra drums and percussion instruments are always available.

OMG - I wish I could have been there. (I'm back from a week long vacation on a cruise ship.) Did anyone get a head count?.... I'm sure there were some "no shows". And yes, with a big group, smaller concentric circles is the thing to try next time.

You are right Emily. If this happens again, maybe we'll have 2-3 separate circles! Or get an Arthur Hull to facilitate! It would've taken someone like him to play the crowd.
Now if we talk of meeting new people, what a great group! I met the most wonderful and beautiful people here....YES for kindred spirits!

I too enjoyed it greatly (also a first timer.) The setting is perfect for full moon. I also wanted to thank Afshin to step in to help lead some of the songs and build up the energy. My only regret was that the park ranger kicked us out when the moon was at its most splendid and the music was climaxing. For that matter, I would suggest considering a park that doesn't close at night in future. That way whoever want to continue can.

The sound dispersed because of the size of the circle. All we needed to do was to make it tighter, but no one moved when Ai requested us to squeeze in.
I have been at drum circles with over 100 people, without facilitators, and they were amazing. The circle was set up with multiple concentric circles, not one large circle.

As a first timer, I enjoyed it. I felt welcomed and supported and the setting was beautiful!

      Thank you again!

Ohhhh, don't get me wrong! it was a very fun time! A lot different than usual because of the group size at the baylands . It was fantastic to have so many come together for a drum circle. We were just warming up by 9!

  • Emily

in a way too popular and crowded. I couldn't hear the other half of the circle and the sound just evaporated.

Amazing show of drummers, dancers and newbees! I could not keep the count as we kept getting more folks till about 8:15! The circle was so large that I think some of us were not hearing the rhythm at quite the same time. I know from my end, I had to watch hands in addition to listening. Great to see BADC familiar faces , and reunite with old friends too. Thanks to each one of you who made efforts to attend tonights circle.... the super full moon did not disappoint!

No handicap entrance ? How much of a walk,
from the parking area, to where the drumming is ??

    • Rhyschenda O.

It's actually not bad. The drumming area is practically surrounded by parking. The area itself is flat, but grassy. Watch your step. I can make it with my cane.

And remember: I plan to be there by 5:30 so we can hang out, have some food (this will not be a pot luck ; byo), or take a walk on the bayland. We will be politely shown the way out by 9PM !
Also, it tends to get chilly !
Really?? 55 of us! You are awesome!

Omg! You are brave souls! 51 of us have now set in motion our intention to come to a drum circle and play ! Whether to learn, to come to balance with the Mother Heartbeat, to release some stress, maybe just listen....its all good. And this full moon will help you out.
For those who have asked about borrowing drums, we will have some (without John being here, we will be missing a couple). However we have other percussion instruments that are very fun and essential to a drum circle. Ive seen some drummers on buckets, pots and pans, water containers! this can be a creative endeaver....most of all, I encourage enthusiasm, laughter, compassion.

This is amazing to have all this great response for our july full moon circle! I anticipate most if not all who clicked YES! to make their appearance! I wonder if we can bring this count up to 50!
If you are new or are hesitant, please gift yourself an awesome experience. Bring to the circle what you would like to take home with you. Apologies that Ive not respnded individually to some comments, so i hope the info in these little boxes will do. We drum on gravel surface. Not great if you expect smooth ground, however it is very close to the parking lot. I will try to corden off a space for our own 'handicap parking'. Hows that?
I am so looking forward to seeing the tribe and greet newbies....dont be shy! Show up to play!
BTW: I am not a facilitator, however we do have enough of our regulars to have a good rhythm heartbeat going....
if you have instruments to share, please bring them. We may have beginners w/o their own.

    Wahoo!
OK awesome people; 39 of us have become a YES! 'I am going'....doesn't it feel great?! Even if you are without your own instrument, we have stuff to share. and when your hands get tired or you want to just chill....you can walk a bit away and LISTEN ....it is amazing to hear us drumming on the outside . You can dance, you can climb the 'stonehenge by the bay' , or bring your sails and go windsurfing! Just come and be in a beautiful setting with really good community. Come a little earlier to be social and eat together (its a bring your own food picnic).
I saw one mention of going to pow-wow, and this is definitely not a pow-wow circle , however you will probably enjoy it none the less. (There are mostly djembe +).
Please bring your sense of excitement, rhythms, imagination....it will happen. Also, remember to bring a chair, stool or blanket AND something warm when the temp drops.
WELCOME! to all the new folks with your eyes wide open!

Thanks to Ai for stepping up as the organizer for this event. I'll also try to come early and bring something to eat. A great picnic idea and setting.

    Greetings everyone!
and a great new moon tonight to you! Set intentions and pass into this phase with much delight in work and play!
I see there are a lot of good folks who have rsvp'd YES! And this is fantastic....as it will be a very significant evening with the sun and moon doing their dance within minutes of each other....if you've never experienced this sight, do not miss! Especially since we are on the bayland, it is a perfect location to watch the action and drum to the cosmos!
John our regular organizer has given me the role of event host! Yeaaa....this is so cool and exciting. We will miss you John!
since we will have to leave very promptly by 9 (and not a minute after), I am inviting everyone to show up earlier for a bring your own food/drink get together at the 'stonehenge by the bay'. I plan on being there by 5:30pm and it would be so wonderful to have your company :-) . This would let us gather around a 'pretend' fire and enjoy meeting up before drums!

Hi, I'm an American expat/world traveler living in Southeast Asia. I'm a drummer and didjirdoo player for the past 6 years. I'll be in the area for a business trip and I wanted to jam so I figured it'd join your event, if that's ok? Cheers!

This is a great drumming location. I didn't have a problem walking the area with my cane.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend because I'll be out of town for a family vacation. Who would like to volunteer to be the event host or co-hosts?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
