Drum, Eat, Drum

  • This location is no longer available

This drum circle will start with drumming at 4pm, then break for a pot luck dinner at 5:30, and resume for more drumming after we eat. It will be at the home of Alan and Penny in the rolling hills near San Juan Bautista (SJB). The format will consist of lots of free drumming and only a few activities thrown in for fun.

SJB is only about a 40 minute drive south on 101 from central San Jose. The town of SJB is to the left of 101 as you are going south, but Penny and Alan's home is on the right, in a peaceful countryside setting. Their home home sits atop a wooded hill with wonderful views of rolling hills and green pastures. You really, really, should use the Google map LINK above for the exact location (the green arrow points to their house; it's shape is a hexagon with an old tennis court next to the long winding driveway), otherwise you will probably get lost. Look for a "Meetup" sign that will mark where to turn from Searle Rd. to Merrill Road, and another marking the driveway.

If you are going to attend, please include a comment letting everyone know what you are going to bring for the potluck. Beer and wine is allowed. Penny and Alan will supply the plates, cups, and utensils. If you have a favorite chair or stool that you use for drumming, you are welcome and encouraged to bring it.

Thank you, Penny & Alan! What a fantastic evening to drum, eat, drum....4 + hours was really amazing to experience. tingling fingers and tiredness that was energizing? my drive home (about an hour) really made me appreciate the distances you both travel to come to the circles....your home was so welcoming, the instruments you shared, everything was wonderful! watching the sunset behind the oak trees, and seeing the stars was pretty amazing for me!
Thank you to John for being our great organizer!

What a fun group to spend an evening with - thank you all for sharing your food and great drumming enthusiasm. Hard to beat four plus hours of drumming! Watch for future postings for this location because as the weather warms we plan on having bonfire potluck drum circles here. Keep the beat,
    Penny and Alan

I arrived at 5 ish and left 4 hours later, I am again amazed at how we become immersed in sounds and rhythms and how the time seems to stand still - as if there is nothing else that matters! At one point I realized how truely blessed I am that my ears bring sounds to my body and that I can feel it. Everyone was so happy! Percussion is fun.
Penny and Alan --- cheers to you! Thank you for those signs along the pathway to your li'l slice of heaven!

Hey does it have to be a drum or is the group okay with percussive guitar as well?

I had to go find a video to see what is percussive guitar. It will be fine, but in the middle of a drum circle, you might not be able to hear it. We'll give you a chance to do a solo.

We will have plenty of extra drums as well as percussion and given the numbers of rsvp's, seating will be no problem either - see you all on Saturday!
