Jewel Staite (Kaylee, of course!) sends her regrets that she will not be able to join us this weekend, as she has to be in another part of the 'Verse, but she has taped a Q & A for us to show before the movie and has signed several items for our silent auction as well. (Thanks, Jewel!)

The doors will open at 11 am and an array of activities will continue until 6 pm, including sing-along filking with local filker & Browncoat Cindy Turner; our own Brandon Klassen performing his Serenity songs, including "Sail the Sky"; a costume contest; door prizes and more. And, of course, the screening of Serenity! Keep checking our blog site for a list of prizes and up-to-date information.

We will hold a silent auction, with some great items, which you can find listed on our blog. Cash only for the auction, please.

In addition to raising money for Equality Now (Joss's favourite charity), this year 10% of the net proceeds will be going to support the BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre, so let's show them how generous Browncoats are!

Through the generosity of UBC's Film Society, we have the theatre for the whole day. The theatre seats 397 people in brand new seats complete with cup-holders, is wheelchair accessible, and you may bring your own food, although they do have a concession stand which we ask that you patronise for popcorn, drinks and candy. Otherwise, feel free to 'brown bag' it or bring in food from a nearby restaurant.

We aim to make this day a flantabulous one, so bring your friends, bring your family or come by yourself and meet new friends.

Tickets are $15 per person and will be available at the door until we are sold out.

PLEASE NOTE: AN RSVP ON THE MEETUP SITE DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE A TICKET. TICKETS MUST BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY.

I posted a few posters aroun Delta, a couple at some Starbucks. But unfortunately most businesses are not willing to help out Charities, something about being heartless money grabbers. But I did get Work Authority to post one in their window and Blockbuster took a copy for their staff to look at. I was really surprised that even some privately owned business refused to put up the poster.

Tracy, to answer your questions: yes, we are looking for volunteers on the day for the door, for the silent auction table, etc. You can e-mail me through the board if you are interested. Also, costumes are encouraged - there is a costume contest for best Firefly/Serenity costume and best Jossverse costume.

We had so much fun yesterday at the CSTS Serenity screening! I took two of my kids and we all had a great time. There was a costume competition, a silent auction, raffles and a chance to meet up with fellow Browncoats. Plus, we got to watch a specially-recorded message from Jewel Staite, and, of course, the movie Serenity. I've never seen the movie with a group of Browncoats before but it was wonderful how much everyone enjoyed it - there were gasps, laughter and general merriment - plus the inevitable reaction to the darker plot twists....a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
    •  very well organized. great hosts. lots of fun activities. however, the distances in the auditorium worked against building energy for them. the fact that all the action was in the theatre also made the event kind of static; it wasn't easy to mill about and socialize, especially for a newcomer such as myself. it was awesome to get to see the movie in a full house of fans.

Thanks again to everyone who organized this. I know a lot of time and energy goes into the planning and carryng off the actual event. It was a lot of fun as usual and it's great to see Serenity on the big screen, especially when you know it's for a good cause. I'm glad the event was on a Sunday, but I guess the downside was that many of the food stops at UBC were closed. We missed having a Big Damn Dinner meetup after the movie this year because it's seems that's when we always get to meet and talk to a few new Browncoats. I guess if we'd tried one of the Village restaurants we would have run into some other Browncoats, but we needed a wheelchair accessible place and it seemed our only options would be the Chinese food restaurant or the McDonalds. I have food allergies that prevent me from eating Chinese and no one in our group wanted McDonalds.

Thanks to everyone who made this a great day, especially those who worked long and hard doing whatever needed to be done!
    •  The music, video clips, prizes, and auctions were very fun. It was great watching the movie surrounded by Browncoats who all laughed, cried, and cheered together.
    •  Fantastic! Technical glitches were overcome by several heroic folk and a boisterous time was had by all!

Another great day with the best group in the 'verse! Thanks, Gayle and Serena for all the work you put into it. Thanks for Jewel for doing everything she possibly could to make up for not being there in person. All of her donations to the silent auction and a private message, too. Wonderful!
    •  AWESOME!! And fun!
    •  All the people I met were friendly and I had a great time. Very well organized I was impressed with how much care and effort went into the whole event. Two thumbs up!
