At our May 6th meeting, we will watch selected clips from a panel discussion from the 2007 Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) holiday lecture on Stem Cells and Bioethics. This discussion features Dr. Douglas A. Melton, founder of the Harvard Stem Cell Insitute, and Dr. Nadia Rosenthal, director of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory near Rome. This discussion covers "Should the US invest in stem cells for economic reasons", "the goal of stem cell research", "embryonic stem cells before and after 2001", "funding and regulating important new science", "personal ethics affect research", and the "commercialization of stem cell treatments."
All are welcome to attend. After about half an hour of coffee, tea, and socializing, we discuss topics of interest to our members. Keep up to date with our current topics at http://bchumanist.ca
