Dam Mountain/Thunderbird Ridge Loop Snowshoe

This event is accessed easily by transit - see below.

This is a total distance of approximately 7 kms and should take about 3 hours, depending on conditions.

**Please note that you'll either need a Grouse Mountain pass - a great deal at $99 per year, or pay $39 to ride the Skyride up and down once, or you can go as a guest of someone who has a pass for approx $18. I have a pass and am happy to have up to four people attend as my guest - please let me know if you'd like to do this.

Carpooling:

Please carpool to events whenever possible. The high cost of gas and maintaining a vehicle make this a very sensible option for vehicle owners and allows those without a car to get to the events. While vehicle owners are free to set their own reasonable fee for carpooling, it is typically suggested that passengers offer the driver $5.00 per hour of driving (includes mileage and vehicle wear & tear). Please state in your RSVP whether you can offer a ride or need a ride, and where you will be coming from. Passengers, please ensure you show up on time and bring an extra bag for wet/muddy footwear and clothing.

Please do not leave carpooling arrangements until the last minute – you, not the event organizer, are responsible for arranging your own carpooling to events. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

      November 23, 2013

  • carol A.

I also have a grouse mountain pass , I'll be outside Starbucks 9:15.
Do you need micro spikes to attend.

    November 23, 2013

    • Annette C.

I have a pass as well. That should not be an issue for those that don't have one. (passes are a bargain btw at $95/year) Conditions will be marginal. did the grind this morning and very little snow. Could do it without the spikes. Was thinking will probably be able to do Dam with the spikes. (if it's open)

      November 23, 2013

    • Annette C.

PS: today was not officially open and if they are revoking passes I won't risk it. Have been caught before. I will do BCMC instead.

      November 23, 2013

  • Albee

U don't need microspikes ....but just would b easier :-)

    Hi Albee,

I was on Grouse last night, and wanted to let you know that there is not enough snow yet for snowshoeing to Dam Mountain. As a result, Dam Mountain Snowshoe Trail (SSG) is closed. There are signs there stating that if one proceeds, their Grouse membership will be revoked. There should be enough snow in a couple of weeks for Dam Mountain snowshoe, but not yet. The short trails in the park (Blue Grouse Loop and Whistler Water Way) are open though. Hope this helps,

    Renee

Would it be possible to go as a guest on someone's pass? Is there parking available, or could I meet up with someone beforehand?
    Thx.

      November 21, 2013

  • Albee

Hi Annette ,,, just to confirm I just called again to confirm that Dam man is open for the wkd , so we do not have to reschedule , cheers Albee

    November 21, 2013

  • Annette C.

We may have to reschedule. According to a friend the route to Dam is closed and they are revoking passes for transgressors:) Given the lack of precipitaion in the forecast before Sunday, itl likely won't be open. I am up for a hike up BCMC or the grind as an alternative.

    November 21, 2013

  • Albee

    Of course .. no problem

    November 21, 2013

  • carol A.

  • Nadia

Hi! I am beginner in snowshoeing. Would this hike suitable for me or not?

    November 18, 2013

    • Albee

If u r fit no problem .... this snowshoe is equivalent to the grouse grind plus some additional flat hiking

      November 19, 2013

    • Nadia

I have another hike on this day, but I'd like to join your great group next time:) Have a wonderful hike!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
