Superstition Ridgeline Day Hike

Anybody up for a challenging Superstition Ridgeline day hike?

This is one of Arizona's great kick butt day hikes. The beauty and scenic views on this hike are hard to beat. the view of the Superstions from up high are breathtaking! The hike is 11.5 miles and 4,480' of elevation gain/loss! With the shorter days, we'll push hard and move fast on this one.

After dropping a vehicle at the exit trailhead, we'll head up the steep Siphon Draw trail and climb 2,080' in 2.5 miles up to the Flatiron. We'll continue past Superstition Peak and then tackle the ups and downs of the Ridgeline as we travel east. At the end, we'll drop down steeply using the Carney Springs trail.

If you're up for the challenge and you consider yourself a very fit hiker, come join us!

Here's a write-up: http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=126

Bring 4 liters of water, lots of snacks, and the 10 essentials including a good headlamp. Dutchman State Park has an entrance fee that we'll split.

. We'll be partnering on this hike with our friends from the Yuma hiking club.

Thanks Aniko for posting and leading this fantastic hike and your patience with the "sweeper's sweeper". Enjoyed it and the great people. Did Tim ever find his keys?

HI Everyone...the shuttle drivers will meet at 7.30 at the Carney trailhead, someone will be waiting there to drive them to us at the beginning trailhead.

The rest of us meet at 7.30 by Bass Pro, and we estimate to start the hike around 8.30 am. Bring lot of water, sun protection, it will be warm...maybe not on top if windy, but certainly on the way up:) See you tomorrow. My cell if needed (call if something happens: [masked]). Bring salty snacks or just salt for hydration, and food...

Thanks guys...so the 3 shuttle drivers are Carol, Carri and Stacy. Any of you familiar as to how to get to the Carney TH? If not, I will send you 3 an e-mail. Carol, Stacy, can you please text me your e-mails (so we don't post everything here) to[masked]? You will drive to this trailhead, bring all your hiking gear, and Don (still confirming) will pick you up around 7.30am and drive you to the beginning trailhead from where we start. (it will take you ~an hour to get to the trailhead (~20 min on a dirt road, which can be handled by a car)

Everyone...please remember to give $5 to your shuttle drivers (bring cash!) for their efforts

Regarding what to bring (while you all know...better to have no surprises:) )
4 LITERS of water (it will be HOT per the weather forecast), layers of clothes. It would be hot on the bottom, windy on top. Plenty of snacks, lunch to give you enough energy. Sun screen, hat, shoes with good traction recommended.

Thanks Carri and Carol. We have 10 people so far, and appreciate your volunteering...we need 1 more to volunteer to drive these 2 ladies to the "ending" trailhead Saturday morning...the earlier we can do the shuttle, the more time we have to enjoy this awesome trail. Let me know if you can volunteer. (the shuttle is about an hour both ways, perhaps a little more.) I will set up the meeting time for the rest accordingly.

How many are coming from the East of the 101/202 Hwy? I would like to set up a meetup place that's a little more convenient. BassPro on Dobson/ 202 is good, or around Walmart at exit 193 (?) on the I-60 if too many leave East.

Let me know if I can help. I only have an Hyundai Elantra, but can help with the shuttle if needed. Besides myself as driver, I can fit 3 ppl comfortably - 4 ppl if they want to become close and personal!!!!

    March 12, 2013

  • Carri

    I can do either

    March 12, 2013

  • Aniko

Volunteers needed to drop off vehicles at the ending trailhead. Need 2 cars there at least, with a 3rd volunteer to drive these 2 (or 3) drivers back to the starting trailhead. The shuttle drive is ~35 min, so if people volunteer, we can shave off 35-50 min in the morning due to logistical actions. Anyone?

Aniko will add the Dalcite loop and Robbers Roost at the end of the Ridgeline for those that want to add miles and challenge. I'll lead everyone else down the regular Carney trail.

We're planning to head for dinner after the hike.
