El Capitan - Canyon for Beginners

If you are doing Devil's canyon on Sunday, and want to camp with the rest of the folks (car camp...so can bring the kitchen sink), bring your camping gear.  Dinner to cook (most likely we'll make a fire), water for 2 days, overnight gear, etc...

This is a 3BII short canyon (3 miles) with relatively easy access, and while a gradual, uphill exit, that is an easy one.  It should take <3 hour, but this time due to the beginner nature of this trip, we will most likely take much longer (some will learn to rappel).  Dress accordingly.  All canyons are shady in the narrow parts...and having to wait for fellow canyoneers could get a little nippy.

This is as much of a beginner canyon as they come.  While most likely we will encounter a dry canyon, water is always a possibility.  The recent rains could have created some wet conditions.  And as usual, there will be plenty of catclaw and cactus...

You'll need full gear:  harness, rappelling device, carabiners, PAS, helmet, gloves, appropriate shoes.  If wet, a wetsuit is recommended.

Please note  I can only take people who have hiked with me before, are recommended by someone I know, or I know have good endurance, balance and agility.  Contact me if interested.  Aniko [masked])

Disclosure:  all canyons are dangerous, and should be proceeded with caution.  You are responsible for your own safety, we are not liable for you.  Please come at your own risk.

Thank you all for such a great time!!! Glad everyone made it through the canyon without issues...and see, that last rap, although the shortest, is the toughest:) Don't judge a book by its cover...lo...see you next time:)

I went thru my belongings, I seem to be missing a few things, if anyone has an extra sleeping bag and/or sleep pad it would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a wetsuit. I'll bring what I have & leave what's not needed, Thanks

Hello everyone, my jeep is still in the shop & I have a rental car I will be driving to Bass Pro in the AM. Can I hop in someone's car? I'm not sure if there's any off road involved & not sure if this amazing PT Cruiser I have can handle it :-) I'm looking forward to meeting everyone & excited about the adventure. Peace

I will not let you come without a helmet:) Bike helmet will be fine...borrow one. And those wanting to rappel on Sunday's event, rent a wetsuit if you don't have one... see you manana at the carpool. (btw, in Globe there is Subway, Taco Bell or Walmart for food)

Everyone coming tomorrow please bring a HELMET!!! gloves (to rappel), and if you need gear (harness, rappeling device, etc...) and you did not let me know yet, please contact me asap!!!
It will most likely be hot tomorrow, we will be really slow due to the newbies, learning to rappel, etc...so bring lots of water (3-4 liter for the hike) .
I am only packing for those who need it. Also, if camping, bring all your gear and food and water.
