Ever wanted to explore Canyon de Chelly National Monument and see more than what the tourists have access to see?. Come join us for this weekend car camping and day hiking adventure as we explore well-preserved Anasazi ruins, admire the towers sheer sandstome canyon walls, and spend the night deep in the canyon at the base of Spider Rock.
The plan is to drive up Friday after work and car camp in Chinle near the park entrance. On Saturday morning we'll get our permits, meet our Navajo guide, and day hike in to our basecamp. The guide will bring our gear and we'll set up a base camp before spending the afternoon exploring the canyon and ruins.
On Saturday evening we'll enjoy a group meal around the campfire and our guide will share stories about the Navajo culture and history.
We'll get an early start on Sunday so we can pack up and then get in as much hiking as possible, hopefully getting over to nearby Canyon del Muerto, before heading home around 2:00 pm. We'll get home late Sunday evening.
If you can commit to going, jump on the wait list and I'll send you the payment information. The permit and Navajo guide cost is a flat fee so the final cost per person will depend on how many people go, up to a max of 12 people. I'm hoping it will be about $75/person. Active Club members will get first dibs for this trip.
