The Rae Lakes Loop is a classic High Sierra trek and offers stunning granite peaks, alpine meadows, pounding waterfalls, raging creeks, and breath-taking mountain lakes to see and explore. This hike deserves its reputation as one of the premier hikes in Sequoia and Kings Canyon, if not in the entire Sierra. I've long thought Rae Lakes is one of the most beautiful places on earth!
On Wednesday, we'll enter Kings Canyon National Park from the east on the Kearsarge Pass trail. Over the next 5 days, we'll hike 60 miles and climb over 10,000' - including going over three 12,000' passes. We'll come out on Sunday and get back late Sunday night.
We'll go light and fast with some big mile days so this trip is limited to experienced and very fit backpackers. Expect some very real challenges like steep precarious snow fields, dangerous creek crossing, high altitude, sudden storms, hungry bears, and swarms of mosquitos. If you can join us, please jump on the wait list. First dibs will go to active Club members.
