Are you up for exploring one of Zion's great canyons?
Parunuweap Canyon, just outside of Zion National Park's east entrance, is a stunning and remote non-technical (but just barely) canyon. The East Fork of the Virgin River flows through this lush but rugged gorge.
The strenuous but rewarding 20 mile backpacking trip over 3 days will allow us to explore some of the interesting side canyons. The highlight of the trip is "The Barracks" where the walls are tall and narrow, much like the popular Zion Narrows.
This is a classic non-technical canyon with lots of wading, several swims in cold water, slippery sandstone banks, boulder scrambling, one very scetchy climb around, a couple of tough climb downs, and a brutal climb out of the canyon on Monday.
The trip is well suited to fit and experienced backpackers. If you can commit to going, jump on the waitlist. First dibs go to active club members.
