Haunted Canyon Backpack

This will be an easy and fun 6 mile (each way) backpacking trip along a beautiful perennial stream in the Eastern Superstitions!  We've done this trip many times and always have a great time.

The trail is north of Superior and entails a drive through an open pit copper mine to get to the trailhead.  The relatively flat and well used trail follows the pretty perennial stream to a scenic valley with reliable water.  Expect lots of old growth cottonwoods and sycamores along the way.  The valley is an old homestead and includes a historic cabin.

We'll enjoy some cocktails and laughs around the camp fire Saturday evening.

We'll return using the same route on Sunday.  We'll stop in Globe for some Mexican food before heading home.

Here's a hike write-up:

What a great weekend. Water was never a problem. Plenty of wildlife in the area. Saw a mountain lion, white tail deer and fresh signs of bear. We camped with 2 hunters and they knew the area very well. Thanks Maurice.

Hey, take lots of water...we went a few weeks ago and everything is dry. There is one small spring near the cabin but its a little funky.
Very cool trip, and interesting mine equipment to see.

@Maurice: Knowing that this is Haunted Canyon near Halloween, did you warn the participants about the very strange activity that's been reported in this area (the reason why the Forest Service closed access to the cabin)?

We meet at Frys Electronics in Tempe in the SE corner of the parking lot closest to the Dennis just across the way.

Hi Maurice, Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I will have to back out of this trip as I just learned my in-laws are coming to town the same weekend. I will look out for more hikes with your group, dog friendly or not. Hope you all have a great trip!
