Aravaipa Canyon Backpack

Come join us on one of Arizona's great backpacking trips!

Aravaipa Canyon is one of the few protected riparian areas in Arizona and it is an incredible backpacking destination. This is truly a desert paradise with a perennial stream, towering canyon walls, lush vegetation, and lots of wildlife. What makes Aravaipa so unique is its beautiful wilderness characteristics, including the lack of any well defined trails. It's often easier to walk in the water than on the bank.

Winter is a great time of year to visit. This is the kind of trip where you regularly say "OMG, this is incredible!" We'll be spending two nights & three days in the canyon.  On Saturday morning, we'll hike in a leisurely 6 miles and set up our base camp near Horse Canyon.  On Sunday, we'll have all day to hike upstream towards the East entrance before returning to our basecamp.  On Monday we'll hike out the way we came.

This is an easy to moderate hike with minimal elevation gain but the route is mostly off trail and you will get wet. Campfires are permitted. No pets allowed by the BLM on this hike.

The permit cost is $17.50 (with PayPal fees).  $20.00 will be refunded at the trailhead.  No refunds if you cancel for any reason - Check your schedule carefully before signing up.  Carpools will be set-up as needed.

I'll see you all at 6:30 am tomorrow at the Home Depot, except Kurt - at the trailhead. It's going to be a great trip!

Looks like it'll be 8 of us. If I could get clarification on who is hiking out Sunday vs. Monday so I can organize carpools appropriately that'd be great. Unless the Sunday hikers have already organized their own? Thx. Weather looks good but it 'll be cold overnight. So bring a warm bag & clothes. We'll have a warm fire each night. See you soon.

Kurt. We should be at the trailhead at around 9 unless delayed. Email me your phone number & I'll text you if we're running late.

Just a reminder if you've never been to Aravaipa, no burning trash and there aren't wag bags and you can't bury toilet paper so bring a sealable trash bag as you'll need to pack in/pack out ALL waste. Questions? Check out

    Hiking out Monday

Hey everyone. Looking forward to an awesome backpack. We're at 5 right now & another club member is interested in coming from Sat/Sun. with her 13 yr old son and a 12 yr old friend. I hadn't planned this trip for kids & don't feel comfortable adding them without your input given you have already signed up & paid and the description doesn't mention teenagers or kids. So, if you would give me your thoughts I would appreciate it. You can text me or just respond to this post. Thanks.
