weminuche wilderness Hike

This is one of my favorite hikes. We will drive to Durango Colorado on Thursday where we will spend the night. On Friday we will take a train to ELK park which is in the middle of nowhere. From here we start 5 days of hiking bouncing back and forth between 10,000 ft and 13,000 ft. The hike is along creeks, beaver ponds and, high mountain lakes. There will be opportunities to fish on at least three of the five nights.  A fair amount of the hiking will be done along the continental divide. We will finish the hike on Tuesday with a hike back through Chicago basin to catch the train  back to Durango. And return to Phoenix on Wednesday. I will get hotels set up and the train tickets taken care of and post the fees tomorrow. I expect the costs to run around 200 dollars.

Can you say about how many miles will be hiked and which trails? or if you just know the trails, I can look up mileage. This sounds like a great trip but I want to make sure that I can physically handle it before signing up. Thanks!

I've done this route a couple of times and have spend many summers in this area backpacking. It is one of the best trips you can do in the country. I've done this trip with Jim and he knows the area well.
