LaBarge Lower Box to Charlibois

This will be a fun, but rugged, off-trail backpack in the western Superstitions to "one of the most stunning spots in the Superstitions!"

We'll start at the Canyon Lake trailhead and drop down into LaBarge Canyon. When we hit LaBarge Creek, we'll leave the trail and hike off-trail up canyon into the very beautiful lower box. After several hours of tough boulder-hopping, scrambling, and bushwacking, we'll bust through to the Calvary Trail and head to Charlibois (reliable water) for the evening. We'll enjoy an evening campfire and some cocktails.

We'll return basically the same way on Sunday but will use the Boulder Canyon Trail to get back in time for a late lunch at the Canyon Lake Marina. The hike will be about 10 miles each day with significant elevation gain and loss.

This trip is suitable for fit and experienced backpackers who like off-trail hiking.

Here's a write-up of the La Barge Lower Box portion of the hike:

I just did this trip this weekend with ABC. We hiked in two miles dropped packs and used day packs for the rest of the hike. Six miles of walking on rocks was tough on the feet. At times, due to the water, we had to hike high and scale boulders. Beautiful canyon and a great hike. The liter you can pack the better. The guys with Hiking poles were doing a better Job balancing through the rocks. Looking forward to this trip!
