RIM to RIM to RIM - Grand Canyon - November 18-22, 2011

Fellow Adventurers of Backpacking, Canyoneering and Hiking,

I have recently had a drop out from a RIM to RIM to RIM trip at the Grand Canyon posted with a different club.  Are you Interested?

Please read the following carefully:

This trip is NOT an introduction to Grand Canyon hiking. At least one previous Grand Canyon backpacking experience is required. Days 1 and 2 are “fairly” easy days. Days 3 and 4 will be especially strenuous. Day 5 is what it is, getting out of the canyon. This is a perfect trip for strong, skilled backpackers who are ready to make it from the south rim to the north and back. Are you ready?

Thursday [masked]): Drive to canyon, eat a good solid meal, get a good night's sleep. We will have a site reserved at Mather Campground (Site #19).

Friday [masked]): South Kaibab trail 7.5 miles to the Bright Angel Campground (4,800' down)

Saturday [masked]): North Kaibab trail 7.0 miles to Cottonwood Campground. (1,200’ up). Check out Ribbon Falls along the way

Sunday [masked]): North Kaibab trail 13.8 miles to North Rim and Back to Cottonwood Campground. (4,000’ up … and down) – This is NOT required.  You may also decide to: 1) Stay in Camp; 2) Turn around at Roaring Springs ( 4.4 miles round trip +/- 500’); 3) Turn around at Supai Tunnel ( 9.8 miles round trip +/- 2,800’); or 4) whatever else you want to do.

Monday [masked]): North Kaibab, River and Bright Angel Trails ( 12 miles - 1,200 ‘ down then 1,400’ up) to Indian Gardens Campground. (This is required) – Possible evening trip out to Plateau Point for sunset.

Tuesday [masked]): Bright Angel Trail to the South rim - 4.5 miles (3,400' up) (This is also required) - Time for celebratory meal, ice cream and beverages!

We will return to Phoenix and Tucson Tuesday afternoon.

If you've always wanted to try a Rim to Rim to Rim, but were intimidated by more difficult or ambitious itineraries, this is just the trip for you! All will be experienced canyon hikers along on the trip to provide support and whatever wisdom we can. If you have already backpacked the Grand Canyon with this club, any other group or by yourself and are interested, please send me an email ([address removed]).

At least one previous trip in the Grand Canyon is required to go on this hike. If you do not know the hike leader,  please get in touch with the Hike leader ASAP.

Cost for the trip is $72 per person when you RSVP to secure your reservation. No refunds are available unless the trip is cancelled. $50 will be returned to you at the Trailhead. (PayPal to [address removed])

YOU MUST BE APPROVED BY HIKE LEADER TO BE MAKE THIS TRIP. I AM SERIOUS ABOUT PREVIOUS HIKING IN THE GRAND CANYON. HAVASUPAI TRIPS WILL NOT COUNT. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, THIS IS A DIFFERENT CANYON. PLEASE BE REALISTIC ABOUT YOUR ABILITIES. TO GET THIS ITINERY FROM THE BACKCOUNTRY I AGREED TO "ONLY EXPERIENCED GRAND CANYON HIKERS".
