Beach Party/Snorkeling at Ocean Reef Park

BLAST beach party and snorkeling at Ocean Reef Park!

SUNDAY MORNING, 8:45 AM: IT IS SUNNY AND WARM HERE ON SINGER ISLAND.

THE PLAN...
We'll meet up from 10am to 12:30pm. Of course you can arrive and leave whenever you want.

If you want to snorkel, the reef is very close to shore; beginners are welcome. If it's too wavy or too cold for that, we will just picnic, swim, and hang out.

HOW WE'LL FIND EACH OTHER...
Ocean Reef Park (on Singer Island) has free parking. Go to the southernmost part of the parking lot - when you enter the parking lot, turn right and go as far as you can. You'll see the wooden bridge that takes you to the beach. Look for the BLAST banner.

WHAT TO BRING...
Snorkel and mask, fins (optional), beach towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, flipflops, and maybe dry clothes to change into after swimming. Beach chairs are nice. A metal detector is always fun if you have one. Surfers can bring boards and gear. No fishing of any kind during this event.

LUNCH AND SUCH...
Bring whatever you want to drink at the beach, and if you're staying awhile, maybe bring a picnic lunch. There are some grills available for use at the park if you are so inclined.

SNORKELING GEAR...
Do you need to borrow snorkel, mask and/or fins? Do you have equipment you'd be willing to loan for the day? Either way, please contact Toni Jr. at [masked]

COST... Free!

KIDS and PETS...
This is a kid-friendly event. No pets please.

GUESTS...
Your women friends are welcome to join us this day even if they're not (yet) BLAST members.

ABOUT OCEAN REEF PARK...
Ocean Reef Park has more than 700 feet of guarded beach frontage, including playground, picnic areas, snorkeling, and showers. Calm surf and a marked swimming area make this a good spot for families. Ocean Reef is the only consistent surf spot on Singer Island. Snorkelers will see colorful tropical reef fish, and possibly some combination of squid, rays (large and small), lobsters, snook, needlefish, pipefish, turtles, manatees, crabs, and many other creatures that make the reef their home.

Ocean Reef Park is on the east side of A1A between Blue Heron and PGA. It can be approached from the south by Blue Heron Boulevard or from the north by PGA. Both turn into Singer Island's one road: A1A aka Ocean Blvd. aka Jack Nicklaus Drive.

PARKING...
Parking is free and access is easy, so on weekends, the beach will be crowded with beachgoers, but even then the surf isn't usually packed. On days with huge swells, Ocean Reef's best entertainment is watching the geysers of spray that leap through the blowing rocks overhanging the shorebreak to the north of the reef.

For those that asked about water proof cell phone cover, so sorry, didn't have business card.

The women were friendly and welcoming. It was really nice although the ocean could have been a bit calmer. We stayed on the beach long after most of the gals left. I'd love to snorkel soon.

Despite being so wavy, the water was surprisingly clear. Saw two very large jacks and a school of tiny sergeant majors. The beach was not too hot (except for the hot BLAST women), water not too cold - all in all, a very nice morning.

can you see the Ocean from where you are and if so, is it calm?

We are not right on the beach, so can't see if it's calm. We are bringing our snorkel gear in case it's flat, and plan to romp in the waves if it's not. See you there.
