Lyor Cohen (http://en.wikipedia.o...) - who has been a pioneer in the development of hip hop, and is Chairman and CEO Recorded Music of Recorded Music for Warner Music - will offer some thoughts and lead a discussion on what trends are effecting music in a +30 year sense.

Although Lyor is extremely accomplished, the exercise of this meetup is to think into the future, and he himself admitted, he had trouble doing that. I sympathize with him having to prepare during the Jets AFC championship game, but we are a demanding bunch and like critical music fans, we come to be entertained. Nonetheless, it was still quite thought provoking. It reinforced the fact that Major Labels are not Technology companies and as such, don't think like ones. It basically left me with more questions about the future of music than answers, and the fact is, nobody has all the answers. So on that front this was still an inspirational meetup as it left me with the desire to learn more. If you would like to continue the exploration into the future of music, join my meetup: http://www.... Tomorrow, we are showcasing four new music:tech products, 7pm at The Bowery Electric. Let's learn from each other.

Had a great time listening to Cohen and meeting some of the people in the crowd.

Very weak discussion. Most answers avoided the question and instead referred to how much the speaker loved music, stories about hanging out with important musicians and the importance of being committed to finding new talents. That's great, we already know those things, but those comments were usually in response to a question about something else nor did they relate to the future. We did hear that kids these days are less engaged with music though, sigh. It was also made obvious that the speaker did not understand DRM or why DRM was not a positive development in music consumption. C'mon. Nice guy though, I'd get a beer with him.

Would have benefited from dif/more dominant moderator and should have a floating mic for guests who are asking questions. Other than that, the event was great, subject and questions were up to par, drop.io folks and group members are awesome. Great event!

There wasn't a lot of tangible or strategic insights 20-30 years out. Even some wildly speculative thoughts would have been something to chew on. Too much self promotion. It doesn't matter what Universal's model is today - I wanted to hear about the distant future. And more about the type of music the next generation will listen to. Stories about Led Zep, Prince are not future focused. It felt like the speaker didn't want to "show his hand".

The event was phenomenal. Lyor was a great speaker/panelist, and Sam did a great job keeping the discussion interesting.
