Rapha Womens 100 Challenge (63 miles)

BOBie Club Favorite Ride!

63 mi route (with a 38 mi option)

Orange-Irvine-Newport Beach

C level Ride Pace - 15/16/17 mph on flats

63 mi route link:  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2295036

This is the 63 mile start point.  We will travel easily through Orange, Villa Park, and into Irvine's Orchard Hills to pick up the 38 milers.  If you prefer to do the 38 mile route, I have posted it separately on the calendar here:

http://www.meetup.com/ButtsOnBikes-InlandEmpire/events/127535392/

This ride makes a 60+ mile ride fly by.  Our first stop will be about 15 miles when we pick up the 38 mile riders (if any) at Orchard Hills Shopping Center.  From there, we will make our way to Quail Hill via Shady Canyon Bike Trail, Bonita Canyon to the Newport Back Bay.  We will make a restroom stop at the Newport Dunes and a scenic stop atop the bluff @ Castaway Park overlooking the Newport Back Bay.  Continuing on our scenic ride through the beautiful homes that border the Back Bay, we hop back on the Upper Back Bay Loop, then the San Diego Creek Trail and finally the Peters Canyon Trail up to Portola Hwy @ Orchard Hills to drop off the 38 milers.  We will stop at the La Sirena Grill for some socializing and a small meal, then head back on our 11 mile journey back to the car.

The following is a STRAVA Challenge for Women, but the guys are invited to ride along to encourage us all to reach our goal of 63 miles.  Here is the challenge:

On Sunday 7th July 2013, Rapha wants women riders around the world to ride 100km in celebration of the 100th Tour de France and the beauty of female road riding.

Rapha wants to create an unprecedented global event, with hundreds if not thousands of women flocking to the road to complete a personal 100km journey.

Join this Challenge and become part of a movement that empowers women to get out and ride!

I would like to invite our BOBie Ladies to join me in completing these 62.13 miles on July 7th.  For those of us registering for 62+ miles at the Cool Breeze in Ventura, CA in August, this is a great preparation ride for going the distance!

Chris you always out do yourself with the great pictures. Thank you so much for preserving our rides in print.

Teri, you can blame the BOBies for the GREAT photos, since the pictures are only as good or great as the subjects it captures. Also, not to toot our own horn, but BOBies just look so darn GREAT! LOL!

Thank you Alan and Chris for sweeping.

Karen, it was Alan who swept the group the whole time and I am glad he did since it allowed me to take pictures of the group as we rode.

I love sharing this route, especially the scenic view from atop Castaway Park Bluff. The multiple tip overs were odd. I always look forward to the social time at La Sirena Grill...bummer Kathy, Chris, and Antonio couldn't stay for that. This 63 miler was a stretch for my usual distance, but I got through it! Hope you all enjoyed the Quail Hill & Shady Canyon Trail...incredibly beautiful trail to take in!

Hi Janet, The Unlikely Cyclist in Costa Mesa is hosting a nice coastal route. Why don't you join us? I'll send you her link..can't remember what her meet up is called :) There's a pretty large group of women (and men) from lots of cycling groups doing this ride!

    • Janet B.

Hi Terri. I am already a subscriber to her blog/newsletter. She is fun to follow. You know how I love this route and already committed to it. It serves my training regimen leading up to the 62 mile route at this year's COOL BREEZE. Thanks for the heads up. I will keep her rides in mind for one of these weekends. I will check with you to see if you will be on it as well :)

Her group is called Orange County Women on Wheels :). As mentioned she (Lisa Kanno?) owns a Women's specific Cycling clothing and bike store in Costa Mesa
