Fishing and Fun in Grand Isle!!!!

I have fished the beaches of Grand Isle for a long time and no place offers a better fishing opportunity for fishermen without a boat than Grand Isle. May is great time to fish for speckled trout which are plentiful and yummy around our coasts and marshes. I chose this weekend because the tidal charts suggest this will be the best fishing weekend in May. If you don't like to fish, come enjoy the beach and the comradery of being with friends. This is where we will be staying: http://www.grandislerentals.com/Camp_Pompano.html

It sleeps 12 people and the cost will run about $100 per person for the weekend. I will need a $50 per person deposit to hold your spot. If we have more than 12 people, we can rent another cabin to accommodate folks.

If you were on the trip and still owe Rob some money,
you can mail him a check at 40482 Mary Ann Priaireville, La 70769,

Rob, can I make this same post on Facebook?

I have already talked to everyone else so it is necessary but thank you

Jennifer and I were last to leave. Some things were left behind and I brought them to my house: A bait casting rod (Beverly?); a pair of pink flip flops (Beverly?) and a pair of black/blue socks (Nancy?). The owner can come get, or I can ring to a future meetup. [masked]

Did you happen to see my Kindle?

      May 19, 2014

No, and we both checked the place pretty thoroughly. I suppose it could have been uder the bed - maybe Rob could check with the realtor.

I can't tell you what a great time I had. Everyone was so gracious and accepting of me, a complete stranger to the group.. Thanks to Al St. Pierre and Rob for setting my line with the right hooks. And Steve taking the time to add string to my new reel. And a special thanks to Katina for making me laugh. 3 sheets to the wind and she still gave me a run for my money at darts. I think we tied, but I do believe I'd loose to you in a serious game. Looking forward to the next trip, wherever it may find us.

I think when I went on a smaller boat last year with 4 or 5 others ( probably 4) it was around $300 a person. I think that's what it was.

      May 19, 2014

    • Rob H.

Steve Tomeny is the only boats around that are rated for more than 6 people. I would love to do a tuna trip but the money is up there.

I would like to fish today also. How do I get to the fishing spot?

Is it $50 or $100 a person to go?

Beverly, the house already has a lot of these things. Please keep it as simple and easy on yourself as possible. I have a huge box of salt, so no need for that!!!!

      May 16, 2014

    • BEVERLY

Unfortunately my car is already packed. But that doesn't mean I have to lug it upstairs. I'm so used to camping and bringing everything by myself. Oh well, at least we'll have it if we need it. I'll have to remember simple next time because I do love simple.

Two methods for fishing with live bait, under a cork or Carolina rigged. A Carolina rig is a sliding weight positioned a foot of so above the hook. It all depends on the depth of the water but both methods allow your bait to move naturally.

    1 · May 16, 2014

    • BEVERLY

If you put the weight just above the hook do you still add a cork or bobber?

      May 16, 2014

    • Nancy H.

Rob, do you think you or someone in the group could help rig up our new rods and reels? I am unsure about my nots.

I'm looking to buy a kayak today. Does anyone have a way of carrying it?

    May 16, 2014

  • Rob H.

Tip #1: One of the best spots to fish is Elmers Island which is located about a half mile before you hit the island. There are a lot of spots that you can get to without a boat. One key for trout is to look for moving water.

    1 · May 15, 2014

    • BEVERLY

Will I be able to buy the bait there?

      May 16, 2014

    • Nancy H.

One fun thing to do off the bridge during the day is try to catch sheephead. They have tiny mouths with BIG TEETH so you need to use small hooks. They feed on the barnicles on the legs of the bridge so drop your line by the bridge legs with a small piece of shrimp on the hook. Beware of the teeth!

    1 · May 16, 2014

  • Rob H.

As far as bridge fishing, you need larger gear because there are some huge redfish that will hit under the lights on the bridge.
