Movies and Music on the Lawn

"Movies & Music on the Lawn, Baton Rouge Gallery’s (“BRG”) popular and inventive summer film series, pairs up some of the most iconic silent films of the 1920s and 30s with the best local, contemporary bands in our area. The band performs a never-before-heard score for the film, which is projected on a huge inflatable screen on the lawn behind the gallery (inside BREC’s historic City Park).

As always, the screening begins at 8 p.m. (or sundown – whichever comes last) and the $5 price of admission includes free bottomless popcorn. In 2014, the Movies & Music on the Lawn series will again include five unique marriages of film and music, with films ranging from the romantic to the unsettling, the comedic to the action-packed. The same is true of the music with styles like Americana and ambient chamber rock, electronic and experimental folk all playing a part in 2014 series. This year. the series will close with a grand finale celebration that promises to be the biggest Movies & Music on the Lawn event in the program's 25+ year history. The exciting pairing for this event will be announced at the June 28 Movies & Music on the Lawn. Trust us, this one will be a night not to be missed!"

If you get off at Dalrymple Dr., take a left and go about half a mile, just past the railroad track. It will on the right.

When you start arriving, post your location. I think we have quite a few folks joining us for the first time so we want to make sure they have a great time!

Is there a specific spot where we'll try to meet? Or a way to identify that we're part of the meetup group?

I hate to be a Greggie Downer, but are there any contengency plans for rain outs? Where we going to eat all that food?

    May 27, 2014

    • Susan

Don't worry. When it rains, they host the movies inside the gallery building

only thing is that once the "talkies" started in the 30's you wouldn't want to miss the audio dialogue. the old dialogue would be much better than bands that fill in. honestly i don't know why they don't just play some classics from that era. most people underestimate black and white films.

Susan I'm not sure actually. It didn't say what year. I thought it would be strange if we watched a talkie with live music.

Is anyone interested in meeting earlier to eat picnic-style before the movie starts (BYOP)? We can stake out a good spot on the lawn and visit.

Yes Carla. It's a public event so never need to ask if you can bring your kids to those. We will set him up in front of the screen.
