BRIDGEMEN Help Project Homeless Connect: PM Shift

BRIDGEMEN! Please join us as we help Project Homeless Count (PHC) on a day where they connect up to 2,000 homeless and low-income individuals to services they need at a "one-stop-shop" at Bill Graham Auditorium.

Afternoon volunteers will have the option of helping to distribute groceries at the farmers market-style food bank or serve as a volunteer companion to escort a person as they navigate the event.

More about the two jobs and additional information on PHC is listed below. Please note: The afternoon shift runs from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. You can absolutely join us for *BOTH* the morning and afternoon shifts. Just RSVP for both the AM and PM Meetups.

In addition to a great sense of accomplishment, volunteers get lunch and a free PHC t-shirt. Then at 7:00 that night you can come celebrate our good work at The Cafe at our monthly BRIDGEMEN general Meetup.

If you have questions or have a preference for a particular job, please indicate it on your RSVP or email Jay (the event host) through Meetup.

    Just got some additional numbers from PHC: In one day:
    -- 159 people: new DMV photo IDs (some had been without for years)
    -- 78 people: podiatry care with followups scheduled.
    -- 747 people: standard prescription and fitted reading glasses.

    From a participant followup email:
    “At every stop, every person I dealt with was helpful, kind, informative and most of all welcoming. Since I’ve been homeless, I often feel judged and rejected. But today I really felt inspired.” :)

    Everyone that I spoke with said they felt the project was worth doing. Eight of you actually said you would do it again regardless if it was a BRIDGEMEN event or not. Final Overall Numbers:

    -- General Event Volunteers: Professional, pre, event, and post-event volunteers and service staff: 910
    -- BRIDGEMEN shifts covered: 43 (top goal was 30. awesome!)
    -- Overall count of clients served on site: 1,894.

    We got glowing reviews by both Randall and the general director of PHC. “We didn’t have to worry about you guys at all. We’d see you and we’d see things running well. I can’t tell you how much we loved that.”

    The next big Homeless Connect at Bill Graham will be in August, and in light of your reviews, we are very likely to participate. Thanks all of you. Well done!

    I have a whole bunch of new dog friends! But besides that, this was one of the greatest. Everyone was really grateful. Everybody must get sconed! I love handing out other people's food. Yay!

    This is a great way to connect with the homeless/marginal community in San Francisco! They're more than a sad face and a sign!!!! I let a couple of guys who retired early (I hate them) know about this.
