Decorate the Tree of Hope at City Hall! (PM Shift)

Please join BRIDGEMEN as we partner with Rainbow World Fund to decorate the World Tree of Hope in the Rotunda of San Francisco City Hall with thousands of origami cranes, hand folded by BRIDGEMEN and each inscribed with personal messages of hope and peace from children and individuals from around the world. The tree is a gift from members of the LGBT community (and friends) to the world - given to inspire hope and promote peace, love and humanitarianism.

Decorating the tree is fun for all, so bring a friend and get into the holiday spirit! World Rainbow Fund has generously offered to provide light refreshments for our enjoyment.

RSVP is required as security in the Rotunda is tight so you'll need to be on the list.

**Rainbow World Fund (RWF) is a volunteer driven international humanitarian service agency based in the LGBT community. RWF's mission is to promote LGBT philanthropy in the area of global humanitarian relief; working to help people who suffer from hunger, poverty, disease, oppression and war by raising awareness and funds to support relief efforts around the world.

It was great fun. I think I did a little bit of just about everything from tying lights to the to sorting and flattening out cranes to cutting sandwichs. Met some really nice people - not just Bridgemen but nice women even. (I usually just ignore women, to be honest.)

Hey Eric, thanks for showing an interest in the Tree of Hope event. As you can see, it is a very popular event and filled up fast. As such, I'm sorry to say that it's unlikely you will move up into the "RSVP Yes" list given that there are six other people ahead of you, and it's necessary to keep attendance to a management level so that everyone has a good time. I do hope you will choose to take part in future events, such as the Holiday Party coming up on the 12/14, and the Bridgemen are always busy planning new events for the future! Hope to see you soon.

Hi John! Perfectly understand there's only so many ornaments to hang. Wishing everyone a fun day!

Something Jeff Cotter wanted me to pass on to the volunteers for this event, that it is going on from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and so if anyone would like to stay past time when their shift ends, it's perfectly fine to do so. They have lots that still needs to be done, and there will likely be an opportunity to sign up for future dates through the the Rainbow Fund directly. The other official Bridgemen events will be on 12/10 for the lighting and then 1/5/14 to help take the tree down, but in between now and the lighting, they will likely need a lot more help in getting everything just right!

FYI: The Tree Lighting is not a BRIDGEMEN event. It's a Rainbow World Fund event and I encourage anyone who volunteers on behalf of the Tree of Hope to attend on their own or with friends. It's a grand time and you'll love it! ~Frank

    John David -
Thanks for your reply. I would probably show up at 1:00 as if that were my shift; I just don't want to be shifty! You mentioned in the announcement that "security at the Rotunda is tight so you'll have to be on the list." I like tight; tight is good. I think it mainly has to do with going through a metal detector; then if you're caught carrying anything loaded, you might be lucky enough to get a pat down! Let me know if there's anything else to be aware of. Thanx bunches!

If I don't get to be on the team, can I still watch and come... --- I mean, come and watch? Anyone here ever seen "Being There" with Peter Sellers? I don't mean you watched it with Peter Sellers, but have you ever seen the movie featuring Peter Sellers as the main character called "Being There"? No, Peter Sellers character was not called "Being There," that's the name of the movie! Oh, never mind; I just like to watch!

David, I think like most Bridgemen events, we certainly won't turn you away if you do show up. According to Jeff Cotter, there's going to be more than enough work to go around getting the Tree of Hope prepared. That being said, and depending on when you show up, I'm not sure what the entry situation will be like as it is at City Hall, but I also think the entire event goes from dawn till dusk and so it shouldn't be an issue.
