DIY Microsoft Surface – My Experience Building an MS Surface from Scratch

Join Matthew Forr, Mindgrub's User Experience Architect as he shares research he has been working on to make large multi-touch tables accessible for the blind. He is currently prototyping haptic interfaces on a Microsoft Surface that he built as part of his independent study with Professor Shaun Kane at UMBC's Human Centered Computing program. The haptic interfaces provide physical feedback for blind users, allowing them to interact with an interface that is normally only usable by those who can see it.

During his talk, Matt will expand on the following research experience:

  • How he went about building a working MS Surface from off the shelf hardware and software
  • Lessons learned for thoes looking to build their own
  • Learned concepts that will be applicable for future device development.
