LAUNCH PARTY! Babble Language Exchange, St Paul's

It is with huge excitement, much relief, some nervous anticipation, and a tiny bit of arousal, that I and Marc are proud to announce…..a new home for Babble

Starting from May 18th we will be based at The Spectator - http://thespectatorbar.com/. This is a modern, spacious and well-run pub, located in between St Paul's, Barbican and Moorgate stations, and not far from City Thameslink.

We have big plans, and the management has fully bought into our vision, so we think this is the start of a beautiful relationship! Our ambition is that Babble will become the go-to place on a Sunday night, a new London tradition to match not talking on the tube, or getting drunk and vomiting in the street. We know we create a good atmosphere and that people find us helpful, but we want more than that! We want to create a party such that people look forward to Sunday nights, and stay till closing with the aim of extracting the maximum possible joy from their weekend!

If we’re going to achieve this, we’ll need your help. We need you to engage with us, we need you to arrive with an open mind and a happy smile (which you already do), we need you to invite your friends along and talk about us when you can, we need you to be active on the website (ratings, comments, conversations, suggestions!). And in return for all of the above, you get a London home. You get a place where you feel welcome every week, where you meet other people who want the same things as you do, where you make friends in a city where that can be difficult. We’re not exclusive, we’re not picky with our members, we don’t need you to be a certain age, nationality or gender, we welcome all-comers and our only requirement is that you do the same.

Unfortunately I had to arrive late and stay little, but would go again assuming that I get the chance. The organizer has enough common sense to NOT pump the music up (unlike other meetups do), this way although it gets (reasonably) loud, you can still have a conversation with people; I like that. I totally dislike when people have to yell at each other to talk (especially when english isn't their first language)

I would prefer either to brush up my very rusty Spanish or learn some Ukrainian (I speak Russian fairly well) but as I did not manage time to warm up beforehand I am happy to earn karma points for the future by speaking about anything interesting with those who want to work out their English and just talk for enjoyment. It can be with anyone. I am an economist and university person, with an ability to be interested in most political topics and indeed most things. I woukd be happy to improve my listening skills too. As a native New Yorker I am deficient in that category : )

It would be my first meetup with this group, but based on experiences with other grooups I want to guarantee the organizers that most attendees look forward to have LOW music in the background, to allow for easy conversation.
