Introduction

I've had an interest in "the basics" since childhood. I currently organize Permaculture events in the region. I'm looking to homestead upstate, but need to plan my escape from NYC with that thought. I'm recently divorced and have a son (8).

What types of survival skills would you like to learn?

Let's start with breathing. I've found that no matter how much I think I know about something, there is always room to learn something new. With that said, I'm like to know more about food preservation, homesteading, and primitive skills.

What skills do you have in regards to the group format that you might like to share?

I've done a bit of foraging, soap making, leather work, nutrient dense gardening, permaculture design, pemmican, freegan rocket stoves, and dealing with certain cognitive distortions that result from living outside our genetic box.

What other topics in regards to emergency preparedness would you like to learn?

Site selection, acquisition, and mapping. There will be a tremendous overlap with permaculture activities. Cross post events? There are over 500 people in my meetup, so far, and back to basics is what most of them are all about.

What days of the week work best for a meetup?

In the city, I can meet after work M-F. Otherwise, I can meet every other weekend. I have a busy schedule with upstate activities though. I'll do my best.

  • Sean,
Hi, it's Sue. I have your replacement copy of The Natural Way of Farming. Where do I mail it so you can get it? It's been on my shelf for about 2 years now!!!! But the content is timeless. Sue

  • Sean...thanks for joining and for your wonderful ideas. I was planning to incorporate rotation of food storage in one of my meetups in the future and am somewhat of an expert in that area...:) My sister even has a cookbook about that very subject.....one of the most informative ones on the market I think. It is called "Made Simple".....I think the group will benefit alot from your input in the future. I look forward to seeing you at events.
