**Fourth of July weekend simmer & cool down wine event.
This is always an super fun & easy wine & hiking outing. Great for first timers. Only about 4 miles & to 750 ft. elevation. This will give us great views of the Southern Sonoma valley. A beautiful area hidden away, known mostly to locals. It's a private Foundation only open 3 days a week.
WE will hike along, creeks, ferns, visit a side spur to some small Miwok Indian caves, to some high viewing areas, go thru a redwood grove to a hidden lake. Another side spur takes us down to the waterfall dam with yellow flowers overhanging.
WE will have a wine picnic under shady old Oaks at the Barthowlomew Museum & Winery. A self guided history tour & wine tasting is optional. This is where Count Agusto Haraszthy of Hungary started all Ca. wines & vines. Then we will trek thru the beautiful park with unusual plants & trees to the oldest commercial reserve winery in Ca. It was recently purchased by a wealthy French winemaker & he has thrown a few zillion bucks to refurbish it. The newly reopened wine caves have been closed for 15 yrs. We can tour the cool caves & see the water Vortex & fountain. A museum is also there along with wine tasting. I will have passes for you .
We return to Sonoma's Best for our last & comp. wine tasting experience.
If you still have some energy left; we will head into the town Sq. for our usual social & fun optional dinner .
What's included: Lot's of wine, water, juice, soda, tea, latte's, energy & protein drinks, the soon tobe famous Gourmet fruit & nut packs, trail bars & other snacks, hiking poles, car shuttles, etc.
Wear good hiking shoes & maybe an xtra pair of comfortable shoes for after. *** **BRING a lunch. Layered clothes as it can get warm, but we will be under cover much of the time.
Now go home & rest for your upcoming Slave day Monday.
