Aquarium Lecture: Beach Wars

Beach Wars, with William Sargent

Take a tour of the last ten thousand years of history on Cape Cod’s Nauset Beach, and learn about glaciers, pirates, rum running, coastal geology, and sea level rise among other topics. William Sargent will tell compelling stories including what the 1626 wreck of the Sparrowhawk can tell us about the fate of coastal houses threatened by sea level rise today and how a lovelorn pirate became the basis for Johnny Depp’s character in Pirates of the Caribbean. Sargent is the director of the Coastlines Project in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and a consultant for the NOVA Science television series.
