Killer Klowns From Outer Space + Vampire's Kiss

  • Oct 18, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Halloween is in October, this movie night is in October, so let's go with a theme of "traditionally scary creatures."  We'll skip the zombies because they pretty much have the other 364 days of the year.

8 PM - Killer Klowns From Outer Space

Clowns have always been kind of creepy, and they're nothing compared to alien Klownz out to turn the human race into sweet, sweet cotton candy.  (The following isn't a trailer, just a short clip).

10:30 PM - Vampire's Kiss

Vampires weren't always scary even in the pre-Twilight days, but Nicolas Cage method acting an insane New York executive who might only be deluding himself that he's a vampire actually is kind of scary.  Most of what's funny about this is Cage's overacting and complete inability to fake whatever accent he was trying to fake.  Also, when he eats a bug in the trailer, he's really eating it.

Doors open at 7, please arrive between 7 and 8.  Drinks/snacks appreciated (I have soda).

BEST UNHEALTHY MEAL: MISSION CHINESE FOOD
    154 Orchard Street, NYC[masked]
    missionchinesefood.com/ny

What's better than bacon? Bacon that’s been cooked, and cooked again, and then cooked again. At Mission Chinese Food, Danny Bowien’s hip subterranean LES lair, the kitchen grabs a hold of classic Sichuan dish twice-cooked pork and thrusts it to new heights. Bacon is braised in ham stock, steamed, and then fried in a skillet before it’s loaded with Sichuan peppercorns, slivers of green melon, sweet tofu skin, and fermented black bean. Shangainese rice cakes are a chewy respite from the pig, and the hints of cilantro and scallion further highlight the frenzy of this feed. The dish is a circus of the senses that is smoky, sweet, bitter, and tongue-numbing all at once. And you’ll be so proud of yourself for powering through that peculiar and wonderful meal, you won’t give a second thought to what it means for your cholesterol.

OK folks, everyone who didn't show up after the RSVP deadline is marked no-show, which doesn't mean much unless you do it consistently. Because one time is not a big deal I'm not going to take it off your Permanent Record if you have an excuse. There is a certain minority who always has to work late on a Friday or got sick, probably due to stress-related illness from working so many late nights.

Mr. Ettinger, if you want a yearly bash, you can host it yourself. While all of Bad Movie Night's meetups are held at Ian's Place, there's no rule stating he has to be the host at all times. You can stage your very own fete and charge people $1 or $2 at the door, as you suggest. Declare a theme, ask for people to wear costumes, go nuts! Make it a night to remember but let's not place any additional burden on our fine host. He does plenty for us as it is. :D

HM Boadicea, the last thing I wish to do is burden our estimable host. By "bash", I simply meant using any residual money from no-shows on (slightly) more lavish goodies during a regularly-scheduled meetup.

I say we tie them up and hang them upside down from your ceiling all night. Need me to bring some of my hooks Ian?

"Killer Klowns" was one of the wackiest things I've ever seen and one that left me scratching my head all the way home. (Clowns from outer space??? Why?!?) But it was "Vampire's Kiss" that really made my night. I'd seen this film years ago and honestly hadn't thought it all that bad. It's Nicholas Cage's usual over-the-top scene chewing that made it a real howler of a flick.

Running incredibly late and so disappointed I'm gonna miss most if not all of one of my all time favorite bad movies. I'm on my way and I'll be there ASAP.

I am not able to attend this evening. I'm still at work! :( apologies on the late notice.

Hey guyz, I'm told I will be spending my Friday evening holding my client's hand while we get his new software working. I know, what fun. So enjoy the films. Ian, I will send you a DVD copy of the film I mentioned for you to review for a future event.

Marcuss, please wear your clown outfit so I can punch you in your nose like I've always wanted...

    1 · October 15, 2013

    • Markus

You could try but you'd just get a honking noise and a pissed-off clown. You don't want that!

      1 · October 15, 2013

  • Ian M

Since there's a substantial waiting list I think I'm going to track no-shows more aggressively. If you are listed as attending on Friday at noon, and you don't actually show up, I'm going to mark you as a "no show." At future events, if regular members are on the waiting list I may bump chronic no-showers to make room.

Yes, I know some of you are VIPs who may have better things come up on a Friday night, but here at BMN bad is good and up is down and VIPs go to the bottom of the list.

Now Mr. Riegelman, this is an equal opportunity movie night. If I paddle one tardy person I have to paddle every tardy person. I fear that our members, no matter how much ugly stuff they're willing to put up with onscreen, wouldn't show up if there was a chance of your tardy ass being on display.

I can do a Costco run if you want Ian. What do you want me to bring?

    October 6, 2013

Anything that people can snack on during the movies? I don't usually find myself saying "damn, we were short a jumbo case of WHATEVAH."

I love Killer Klowns. One of my favs of all time. And Nic Cage's overacting in bad movies is always worthwhile. Looking forward. (:

Hi, we're so excited! Is there something specific you'd like us to bring?

    September 24, 2013

    • Ian M

There is usually enough to drink, so snacks would be appreciated, that's about as specific as I can be

      September 25, 2013

  • Julie S.

REALLY sad we'll probably be away then. Coming into the city the weekend before for a day at ComicCon. Would love to follow it up with angst-ridden Nick in Vampire's Kiss...loved hating it! Enjoy.

    September 23, 2013

  • Ian M

I'm trying to schedule this to minimize conflicts with other movie nights, so our loyal members don't have to miss other stuff. People who came to my last BMN missed Vampire's Kiss at Wasted Cinema, but now they get a chance to see it with cheaper drinks. Grindhouse people, you guys have stuff every damn Friday now...
