I am a man who wants to read good books and who wants to talk about those books with people who are smarter than I (or at least have an intelligent/different perspective than I).
If I tried to rule out every possible contender, I'd never answer. So, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. The poetry, the symbolism, the social commentary in this novel thrills me every time.
I am a 41 year old reader/skateboarder (The two great loves of my life). I taught English for ten years. When the uncomprehending face suddenly lights up with understanding or when a non-reader finishes her first book ever and asks for another, wow.
