Maya Classic Movie Film Series: Roman Holiday

Maya theater is currently featuring a Classic Movie film series on Thursday nights. This weeks featured film is the romantic comedy Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. The film starts at 7:00 but I will be out front at 6:30 and will go inside at 6:40 to get a seat. Hope you can join us for this great "blast from the past" classic! Note: I will not be attending this event due to a last minute conflict. I hope you all have a great time.

Here is a quick synopsis of the movie.

Audrey Hepburn became a star with this film, in which she played Princess Anne, weary of protocol and anxious to have some fun before she is mummified by "affairs of state." On a diplomatic visit to Rome, Anne escapes her royal retainers and scampers incognito through the Eternal City. She happens to meet American journalist Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck), who, recognizing a hot news story, pretends that he doesn't recognize her and offers to give her a guided tour of Rome. Naturally, Joe hopes to get an exclusive interview, while his photographer pal Irving (Eddie Albert) attempts to sneak a photo. And just as naturally, Joe falls in love with her. Filmed on location in Rome, Roman Holiday garnered an Academy Award for the 24-year-old Hepburn.

This is a true classic... Audrey Hepburn was then what Jennifer Lawrence is now. This was her first major film role, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. This film was originally written for Cary Grant and Elizabeth Taylor...and one of the writers (Dalton Trumbo) could not be credited because he was on the Hollywood blacklist at the time.
