Thank you for showing interest in the Balizinha Soccer Meetup.
The purpose of this meetup is to introduce people to the game of "balizinha", and spread this form of soccer/futbol in the Cambridge area.
This meetup is for players who have played high school level soccer or higher. You must have "touch" to play balizinha, anything less will slow down the speed of play.
The balizinha meetup is capped at 18 players (6 teams of 3 players each). We have a predetermined schedule and each team is guaranteed at least four (4) games, with the cap in place you will most likely get five (5) /six (6) games. Because everyone has registered as a "free agent", teams are chosen at random and because we have quality players, there is no telling who will be the best team that day.
We are a pretty cool group with people from all over the world that understand the same language, the language of futbol. We usually have samba (brazilian carnival music) playing in the background and we encourage people to stay on their feet and play the ball. We all have work on Monday, so we play hard within a certain limit.
Balizinha (root word "baliza" (ba-lee-za) means goal in Cape Verdean/Portuguese Creole, any time you add "inha" (een-yah) to a word, it means that it is small. "Balizinha" literally means small goals.
The game is played on hard top (basketball court) with a maximum of six (6) people on the court, three (3) people on each team. The goals are 3x3, so a player's accuracy will be tested and the futsal ball moves quickly, so the players will require "touch". Don't worry if you haven't played in a while, "touch" is like riding a bike, once you start playing it will come back to you.
We don't play with corner kicks, but if the opposing team purposely kicks the ball out on their own side three (3) times in a row, than a free kick is awarded from half-court. Players are not allowed to crowd the goals and must stay on their feet at all times, no hard tackles.
If you at least played high school ball and love this game, this is the meetup for you. The best way to see if this meetup fits you is to try it. See you at the next balizinha meetup!
