Space 1889

India may be the jewel of Queen Victoria’s English Empire on Earth, but other precious stones shine brighter. The finest of these is Mars. First visited by Thomas Edison and Jack Armstrong in 1870, Mars inflamed the imaginations of Earthmen and lit the torch of exploration to the other planets.

I'm knocking around the idea of running a one-shot (or perhaps a mini-campaign) of the Space 1889 roleplaying game, either in Original Flavor or the Savage Worlds update. More properly "Planetary Romance with a liberal dollop of steamtech," PCs are members of the Britain-based Explorer's Society, who accept all members willing to uncover the mysteries of the solar system.

If I get enough bites, we can go forward with setting a When and a Where. I've gotten into the habit of running my games at a little game store in Eastern Market, which has the advantage of being accessible to folks on both sides of the Potomac, but I'm willing to entertain just about anywhere in NoVa, and perhaps a place in DC or Maryland.

Hi, Rick! So far, Sundays are working for us. Check out the thread on the Discussions board for more info.

Ken: I'll shift this over to a discussion board topic, and we'll sort it out there. I can do either Saturday or Sunday (can also do Friday night, but evenings are hard for a lot of people).

I have a Sunday D&D game (awesome DM!), so I'm shaky on multiple weekends, not that I am indispensable. What do you have in mind for a better idea?

  • JAM

I had a great time! Much laughter. Good game. Great company. I would be interested in doing it again.

    July 24, 2012

  • Jenn

Sure, Ian and I are game. Just point us in the right direction for the planning. :)

Hi, all--I'd like to do an event for the next game, but given the awesome cohesion our group had this weekend, I'm thinking that maybe an item on the discussion board might be a better idea. What do you think? Also, I can game multiple weekends, so if we have more than six or seven interested, I can do another session.

Great game, great GM, great company, great house! Thanks to everyone for being a part off it. This group is definitely a keeper.

Jim: should we roll up characters ahead of time?

    July 20, 2012

  • JAM

No, I meant me. Is there room for me? (I sorta lost count trying to follow the comment thread). Meant to ask before I RSVP'ed, but I hit the wrong button...

    July 17, 2012

  • JAM

Is there room for one more?

    July 17, 2012

  • Ken

    Done!

    July 13, 2012

  • Ken

I'll defer to experience. Can't wait to play.

    Jim: Woooohooooo!!

Hi all, I'm going to drop out of this as I may be working the next two weekends.

    July 12, 2012

Jim: Have you decided on which rules flavor you're going to use? If not, might I request Savage Worlds? It'd be a huge help for me, frankly. I'm planning to use it for my game, but I've never tried it before.

    I can make it!

    I'm in!

Ben and I are usually a set, so would you have room for 7? Or we can sit this one out and give you time to get organized. Ben may end up working that weekend, so he hasn't responded yet.

Smoke free house here. And sure - snacks and drinks are always appreciated! Thanks.

    July 4, 2012

  • Heather P.

I'm good with animals (three dogs here) and can make it. Can we bring munchies/drinks?

    July 4, 2012

  • Karen G.

Animals are fine with me, but I can't be around cigarette smoke. :( Are you guys smokers?

    July 3, 2012

  • Jenn

Yep yep - still willing. [masked]th St N, Arlington 22207. We can just set up in the dining room - nice big table, plenty of chairs. Looking forward to it! PS - We do have a cat and dog, in case anyone has allergies.

If you are looking for a Virginia location, I might be able to offer my place. Have to check with the room-mate to be sure. Only problem is there is not a lot of parking nearby. Either way, I'm in.

I'm busy with family July 6- 16, anytime after is good for Ian and I. We can offer our house for gaming, or are happy to go elsewhere!

    June 23, 2012

One tweak to my availability--change 7/21 to 7/14. 7/21 is now free for me, and 7/22 as suggested is also good.

    June 23, 2012

  • Bennett G.

I am interested. Is there a place you could suggest for good background info.

    June 23, 2012

  • Ken

I'll look into my schedule but would love to play!

I'm in! My primary scheduling conflicts are the week of July 4th and Saturday, July 21st. Otherwise, I am usually available.
