The Magic & Mystery of Childhood: Developmental Astrology
A Webinar with Gloria Star
Using astrology as a tool for child guidance can be an amazing thing. Even though we each have our specific natal astrological chart, looking into the life of a child through astrology can be a real challenge. Children are developing into themselves, and the dynamics of their charts have significance that's different from adulthood. With much of her work focused upon addressing the special qualities of working with astrological charts of children, Gloria brings her own insights into developmental astrology. After all, our childhood experiences frame and shape our lives. Whether you're a parent or teacher seeking to better understand a child, a student of astrology looking to expand applications of this craft, or just interested in probing into your own early years, please join us.
Further Defining Developmental Astrology
Psychologists have long understood that the psyche and personality of the child from the core elements of the developing human. Children exist within their own realm of experience. They are not yet adults, although their personalities are certainly distinctive. We continually ask the question about "nature or nurture," and this is especially tender when interpreting the astrological chart of a child.
The applications of developmental psychology integrated astrological concepts provides an exceptionally rich tool for understanding many of the potentials and innate qualities of a child. Communicating this information is a real challenge, however. Parents may be sensitive to the way information is presented about a child. It's easy to think you are being frank and direct, when you may, instead, seem to be judgmental. Also, it is significant that when a child's chart is presented to a parent, teacher, or grandparent, that, as much as possible, the child must be given power to exist and develop without instilling undue negativity when difficult qualities are seen in the chart.
The reverse is also true, since factors that might indicate special talent, ingenuity or other prodigious qualities can be taken out of context or over-expanded in some way. We'll deal with this more when we dig more deeply into the astrological concepts as they are applied to and expanded into the framework of childhood.
It was not my plan to become an astrologer. In fact, like most people I knew very little about “real” astrology when I was growing up. By the time I entered college (when I, of course, knew everything!), a friend was always talking about her amazement with astrology. “You’re way too smart to fall for that!” I told her.
So, she challenged me, and I took the bait. I set out to disprove astrology.
Imagine my surprise when, after setting up an empirical study of the subject, I began to realize that there was real substance to this ancient system of understanding life. The study of astrology and metaphysics was a perfect compliment to my academic endeavors in the fields of nursing, secondary education and psychology.
