Public Outrage at the State Board of Education Meeting!
The State Board of Education got an earful on a hectic day of public testimony before their controversial vote on new social studies standards this week. While the board heard a stern rebuke from educators and citizens in the hearing room, state lawmakers and national civil rights leaders spoke to a raucous crowd of more than 300 people at TFNs "Don't White-Out Our History" rally on the steps of the Texas Education Agency. The message inside and outside was the same: teachers and scholars should determine what our children learn in their classroom, not politicians pushing an agenda.
Want to see for yourself the circus surrounding the boards debate yesterday? See our report of the day's highlights in this short video:

Will the board heed to the growing backlash from critics in Texas and around the country? Well get a good indication later today when they gather to vote on yet another round of amendments to the standards.
